  1. SAVING ENERGY AND THE ENVIRONMENT

  2. 1. COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTBULBS (cflS) • Energy efficient lightbulbs that save energy and last longer. The cost less money and less energy.

  3. 2. ENERGY STAR • The government gives this rating to appliances that are energy efficient. Look for this logo:

  4. 3. OTHER WAYS TO SAVE ENERGY AT HOME: • Take shorter/colder showers • Proper insulation in walls and attic • Caulk leaky windows • Turn lights, water, electronics off when not in use

  5. 4. GREENHOUSE GASES • Gases like carbon dioxide and methane that are produced by burning fossil fuels. Using unnecessary energy increases greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and contributes to global warming.

  6. GLOBAL WARMING The accumulation of greenhouse gases creates a “blanket” around the Earth that traps heat and increases temperature in the atmosphere.

  7. RENEWABLE RESOURCES • Sources of energy that can be used over and over without running out. Examples include: wind, water, and sunlight.

  8. NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES • Sources of energy that cannot be replenished, and will eventually run out. Examples include: coil, oil, and natural gas.
