  3. What’s the meaning of the red word ? What role does it play in these sentences? You can do it yourself. ---Can I borrow your pen? ---Yes, you can. How can that nice guy do that?

  4. 情态动词的定义 情态动词表示说话人的某种感情或语气,对某一动作或状态的态度。 表示“需要、可以、必须、应当”等。

  5. 情态动词的特征

  6. can, could, 情态动词的类型 must, have to, shall, should, ought to, will, would, need, dare, may ,might used to, had better, would rather etc.

  7. 一﹑can, could 1.表示“能力”can指现在,could指过去。 I can manage it myself. She asked whether she could borrow the book. 2.表示“允许”“请求”,could比can更委婉。 1)---Could/ Can I come to see you tomorrow? ---Yes, you can. 2) You can go home now.

  8. 3. (用于否﹑疑﹑感叹句中)表惊异﹑怀疑﹑不相信的态度,翻译为--可能,能够。 · Can this be true? • How can you be so careless! • This can't be done by him.

  9. 4.表示“可能性”、“推测”。 • She can't be a teacher. • Hecould be very naughty when a child. • Itcan’t haverained last night. • Hecan’t have beenasleep at two last night. 针对过去情况的否定推测: can/couldn’t(语气弱) + have + done。

  10. 5. could have done “过去本来能干…但实际上未能干”表示“遗憾惋惜”。 • I could have attended the meeting on time, but I missed the early bus.
