  10. The Value of Recipients • Educate donors and others about the value of giving to AAUW (and raise money!) • Create academic, business, and professional collaborations in the community. • Recruit prospective applicants & selection panelists. • Recruit new members and c/u’s. • Improve visibility for AAUW as a community leader and advocate for women.

  11. Mechanisms for Outreach • National/customized press releases announcing awards • Fellows’ contact lists & programming ideas suggestions sent to branches/PIAB • Weekly blogs about alumnae/social media • Mission & Action, Outlook features • Featuring recipient quotes w/donor acquisitions • Online Directory of Fellowship Recipients

  12. Fellows Directory

  13. Recipient Engagement at Branches • Attend local events to highlight their work and the benefits of their AAUW fellowship or grant (fundraiser). • Targeted for special events like International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month. • Utilizing connections on campus w/faculty to add value to branch events.

  14. “They welcomed me and my family…. I was also invited to speak at the AAUW State Convention, which was the highlight of my year. I felt so empowered to speak and to be among friends…. With everything that I've been through in my life and over the past year, I was deeply moved by this invitation. It gave me a glimpse of myself as a speaker at such events for women and in my career.”

  15. “Now I am getting more involved with the branch. The women in the branch were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Sadly, the branch is quite small and needs new membership and activities. I hope to help them with this in the coming years, especially with improving relations and membership at my own campus.”

  16. “None.  I was a bit disappointed!  I would have liked to have been more involved with my local branch.  I did attempt to contact them through an email address that was listed in conjunction with a local AAUW event in our local newspaper, but I never received a response (or perhaps the spam filter ate it?).”

  17. Expand Local Engagement • YWTF Chapters can invite fellows to join and use them for programming opportunities. • Branches can use our blogs to feature recipients on their websites & newsletters. • Use branch events to foster relations with c/u partners via events like grad school nights. • Share info on “famous” fellows and tools to promote them. • Cross-dept events like AAAS conference.

  18. Blog: Following the Fellows Updated weekly, this series highlights the many and varied accomplishments of our alumnae. Check back often for updates!

  19. Expand Diversity and Inclusion • Engage fellows in more STEM activities. • Use F&G alumnae in global membership strategy pilot activities in home countries. • Use video for membership/giving appeals. • Reposting blogs in magazines/on websites that target diverse audiences.

  20. “I accepted an invitation to speak at an AAUW event about my work and also to attend a fundraiser.  My general feeling is that in order to truly support women and girls' initiatives, both the local chapter and the umbrella organization AAUW must make attempts to reach a broader audience and support community building events.”
