  2. What Is This? A rational expression is an algebraic expression whose numerator and denominator are polynomials. The value of the polynomial expression in the denominator cannot be zero since division by zero is undefined. This means that rational expressions, like rational functions may have excluded values. Source: Holt Algebra 1 Textbook, page 642

  3. The Steps 1. Factor out everything the terms have in common. 2. Cancel out the common factor.

  4. Example And Answer -6x-16 -16x+64 (x+2)(x-8) (x-8)(x-8) x+2 x-8
