The Back Story • Beginning 2nd Semester 2012 • Student/Athlete killed in a car accident • District & Building Admins request coach/teacher to serve as a grief counselor to assist students in need • 4 male student/athletes participate in counseling sessions • 2 of the 4 transpire to steal teacher’s keys • In-Service day – All 4 break in/vandalize

District Administrators/Teacher Relationship • Superintendent makes a “deal” • All 4 students “expelled” • Approved by school board • Allowed to finish required courses for graduation • Course work graded by teachers (including 1 victim) • Students fast tracked to graduation • Burden placed onto teachers • No accountability • “Living Legends” to other students (YOLO)
