  1. AP CALCULUS March 19, 2012

  2. STUDY SESSION @ Daviess co. • I have the following going on Saturday: • Rachel • Tanner • Haley • Ross • Anyone else? • Meet in teacher’s parking lot @ 7:30 am. We will return around 3 pm. Bring pencil & calculator.

  3. Homework questions? • Page 303 (Thursday’s) – using area formulas • Page 315 (Friday’s) – review questions • Tutoring after school today & Tuesday only. • Unit test on Wednesday, Quiz #2 on integrals on Thursday • Test on integrals & derivatives next week.

  4. Trapezoidal rule • What is the area of a trapezoid?

  5. Trapezoidal rule • So, what if we used trapezoids to find the area under the curve? • Would this be a better approximation than using RAM? • In this example, would Trapezoids be an over or under estimation? Why?

  6. Trapezoidal rule • What would the area look like analytically? • What is the height? • Where are the bases?

  7. Trapezoidal rule • Let’s do an example. • Use the Trapezoidal Rule with n=4 to estimate 2dx.

  8. Trapezoidal rule • Compare the estimate with the value of NINT (x2, x, 1,2) and with the exact value.

  9. Averaging temperature • Look at page 308 Example #2. This is an excellent example of a tabular problem that could be on the AP exam.
