Parts of a letter • Date line – Insert…Date and Time • Inside Address--Includes name and address of the business or person whom letter is being sent. • Salutation--The greeting. • Example: Dear Ms. Verstraete : • Body-Message of the letter • Complimentary Close-Phrase such as • Sincerely yours , • Signature--Writer’s signature handwritten in black or blue ink. • Writer’s Identification--Writer’s keyed name and address are the last part of the letter

  3. Elements of a cover letter • Block-style letter • This letter is written in response to either a job advertisement or an inquiry about a possible opening. • You should enclose your resume and any other pertinent documents with the cover letter.

  4. Block-Style Letter • Margins 1-inch all the way around • File…Page Setup…Margins Tab…Change to 1 (Top, Bottom, Left, Right) • All paragraphs start at left. • Single-spaced within paragraphs • Double-spaced between paragraphs
