  2. Application Requirements • Must have a job • Provide a letter from employer – example can be collected from ISFO • Must be registered in the SEVIS System • Must be a full time student • Should be in the US at least one month

Steps to Follow • Bring employer letter to ISFO and an advisor will co-sign it. • When the letter has been co-signed, you will collect it along with the Social Security Application. • The mailing address on the SSN application needs to be ISFO. • Take all of this to the SSN office in Elgin. • Do not mail your application/documents to a Social Security Office.

  5. Documents Needed • Letter from employer co-signed by ISFO • Social Security Number Application • Passport • Visa • I-94 • I-20 or DS-2019

  7. Told you need an SSN, but you don’t have a job? • Follow the same steps except for you will not have a letter • Apply and receive an official rejection letter stating you are ineligible for a SSN • The rejection letter will serve in the place of an SSN if you are ineligible for one.
