  2. TUESDAY 11/12/2013 • Aim: How can you create a wash of values for your first layer of painting? • Do Now: Review! What groups of colors mix together to create neutral tones? • Homework: Create a drawing from observation- position yourself in one room in your home, so you can view another room. Draw your view. Use graphite only.

  3. Vocab • Wash: A thin application of color mixed with a lot of water. Generally used as a watercolor technique. • Gesso: A chalk based priming material used to coat surfaces like paper or canvas, so that paint does not absorb into the material. • Under-painting: creating a painting with a thin application of values of black and gray, or browns to which color is then applied over.

  10. Materials • Modeling Paste: acrylic polymer medium that thickens the acrylic. It’s white so it tints it if you mix directly with the paint. You can apply it first to areas you want to texturize, let it dry then paint over it. • Wax medium- extends the life of the acrylic, makes it thicker. Careful with brushes- waxy! • Matte medium- when mixed with your acrylic will take some of the shine out of the paint. Also makes the paint more transparent. • Gloss medium- when mixed with the acrylic will make it more glossy/shiny. Also makes the paint more transparent.
