  4. Pick your Future?!Example A • 35 years old; Married and 2 kids • 2 car loans • $50,000 Student Loan Debt • Boat (with a loan on it) • No college savings for kids • Roth IRA – each put in $100/month • Emergency Fund – What is that? • Revolving Credit Card Debt of $3000

  5. Example B • 35 and married with 2 kids • No Student Loan Debt • You drive PAID for Cars • Your home is paid off – NO MORTGAGE • Max out Roth IRA (currently $5000/yr) • Monthly contributions to kids college • You have a boat – just no loan • 6 months emergency fund • No Credit Card Debt – (Don’t even have one)

  6. Society tells us…. • Always have a car payment • Extend the Mortgage out – need tax break • Compete with friends/neighbors • NOW – we don’t think of retirement

  7. Ramsey tells us • Pay cash for cars • No credit cards • You don’t have to worship FICO score • Mortgage – is it a great tax break – NO! • Save $ • Live on less than you make • Set up a monthly budget

  8. Debt Free Friday • Callers call in to show and share their stories of becoming debt free • Students love it. They may not totally understand sacrifices made but starts some very good conversations • My favorite one!
