  4. Meteor vs Meteoroid vs Meteorite • Meteor: Space debris in Earth’s atmosphere • Meteoroid: Space debris in space • Meteorite: Space debris that has hit Earth’s surface

  5. Meteor vs Comet vs Asteroid • Meteor: space debris orbiting the sun made of mostly rock • Comet: Ice and rock orbiting very elliptically • Asteroid: space debris found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter

  6. Russian Meteors • A meteor hit Russia on 2/15/13 • This meteor crossed over the Ural Mountains in Russia. • The meteor blast injured 1000s of Russians.

  7. Russian Meteors • This meteor was broken off in a collision in the asteroid belt past Mars. • It was named DA14
