  1. Imparfait Describesa previous habit or a previous state of being.

  2. Imperfect - Imparfait • Describes ongoing or continous actions or events in the past. ex. Je lavais ma voiture. • Describes habitual or repeated actions or events in the past. ex. Ilsarrivaientgénéralement à quatreheures. ex. J’allais à l’opéra le soir.

  3. Describes persons, things,or a state of mind in the past. ex. J’étaisinquiète.

  4. How to form the imparfait • Take the nous form of any verb • Drop the subject pronoun “nous” and the “ons” ending • The stem remains • Add the imperfect endings to the stem and add the subject pronouns, noun, or subject.

Stem changing verbs (boot verb) Verb ending in: • Ger (manger, nager, voyager etc.) • Cer (commencer, placer, annoncer etc.) • Yer (payer, nettoyer etc.) • Ier (étudier etc.) These verbs have a special spelling on the “nous” form in the present tense, so be careful when using them in the imperfect
