Why MC-FP for Residents? • New program requirements mandate that residents must participate in quality improvement activities. • MC-FP tools can help program directors demonstrate that general competencies and program requirements are being met. • Clinical Simulation will be introduced into the certification examination in the near future. Currently the Clinical Simulation is utilized in the Self-Assessment Module (SAM) activities.
Resident MC-FP Entry • The ABFM requires residents who entered ACGME-accredited family medicine residency training on or after June 1, 2012 (including those who received advanced placement credit for prior training in another specialty) to complete the Resident MC-FP Entry Process. In order to become certified by the ABFM, the following requirements must be met:
Resident MC-FP Entry Core 3 Year Family Medicine Resident • Starts Resident MC-FP Entry on the first day of residency training. Advanced Placement Training Resident Who Enters Family Medicine Residency • Starts Resident MC-FP Entry on the first day of FM residency Training
Requirements • MC-FP Activities – 50 Points • Minimum of one (1) Self-Assessment Module* (SAM) – 15 points each • Minimum of one (1) Performance in Practice Module* (Part IV) with data from a patient population – 20 points each • Additional Part II or Part IV activities to • Exam application and full examination fee for the MC-FP examination • Attainment of a full, valid, unrestricted and permanent medical license • Successful completion of family medicine residency training • Successful completion of the initial MC-FP examination • *The modules are provided at no cost to residents through their physician portfolio at www.theabfm.org.
