  2. Alcohol • Drug that depresses the brain and nervous system • Made by a process called fermentation – process in which yeast, sugar, and water are combined to produce alcohol and carbon dioxide.

  3. Beer • Alcoholic beverage made by fermenting barley, corn, or rye • Most beers are about 4% alcohol • Malt liquor, is beer with a higher alcoholic content than regular beer • Only difference between regular beer and light beer is fewer calories

  4. Wine • Alcoholic beverage made by fermenting grapes or other fruits. • Most wines are 12 to 14% alcohol • Wine coolers are carbonated beverages that only contain about 1.5 to 6% alcohol

  5. Liquor • Alcoholic beverage made through a process called distillation • Distillation – a process that uses a fermented mixture to obtain a beverage with a higher alcohol content • Most liquors are 40% alcohol
