  2. My Story • International Affairs / History • Started in the Industry 3 years ago • I’ve seen it with my own eyes  EXPERIENCE • “We go through the fields, and all of a sudden the knowledge is there in us. We know it absolutely. Afterwards, we put it to the test and find it confirmed.” - from “The Agriculture Course”

  3. What is Biodynamics? • Rudolph Steiner • The Agriculture Course BOOK = 8 lectures, June 7 – 16, 1924 • (WH)olistic Agriculture • Homeopathic Farming • The Farm / Grow Room is its own Organism • Biodynamic ‘Preps’ BD500-508 • Stellar Influence

  4. Biodynamic ‘Preps’ BD500-508 • BD500Horn Humus (Earth) • BD501Horn Silica (Sun) • BD502 Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) (Venus) • BD503 Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) (Mercury) • BD504 Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioeca) (Mars) • BD505 Oak Bark (Quercus robur) (Moon) • BD506 Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) (Jupiter) • BD507 Valerian (Valerianum officinalis) (Saturn) • BD508 Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) (Cometary) SOURCE: The Agriculture Course, Rudolph Steiner BD500, BD501 field spray BD502 – BD508 vegetable substances used in compost preparations

  5. BD500: Horn Humus (Earth) • Cow manure potentized in a cow horn - WINTER • SHAPE - cow horn is an instrument. • One horns worth of BD500 is capable of treating almost four acres to active biological activity in the soil and encourage root development. • The idea of potentizing manure in a horn may sound far fetched, but consider the importance of shapes. Tone quality of instruments, such as drums, depends on the shape of the instrument. If the shape is off, the sound vibrations are disharmonious.

  6. BD501: Horn Silica (Sun) • BD501Horn Silica (Sun) finely ground quartz potentized in a cow horn - SUMMER • Enhance light metabolism in the plant, stimulating photosynthesis and the formation of chlorophyll. It is intended to influence the color, aroma, flavor, and keeping quality of the crops. • The average horn produces 300-500 grams of 501, enough for 150 to 250 acres of land.

  7. Ex: Best planting times • Thursday January 15 @ 7 AM thru Saturday January 17 @ 11 PM • Wednesday February 11 @ 6 PM thru Sunday February 15 @ 1 AM • Wednesday March 11 @ 5 AM thru Saturday March 14 @11 AM • Tuesday April 7 @ 1 PM thru Friday April 10 @ 8 PM • Monday May 4 @ 8 PM thru Friday May 8 @ 4 AM • Monday June 1 @ 1 AM thru Thursday June 4 @ 10 AM • Sunday June 28 @ 7 AM thru Wednesday July 1 @ 4 PM • Saturday July 25 @ 3 PM thru Tuesday July 28 @ 10 PM • Also: Best Fruit, Leaf, & Flower periods SOURCE: http://www.jpibiodynamics.org/content/2008calendarrecommendations.html Stella Natura 2009

  8. Ex: Best planting times • The Seasons – Earth’s daily spinning and Earth around our Sun AND further delineated by the cosmos. • Biodynamics includes the interaction of the Earth and Moon AND all the other planets in our solar system and the constellations. • Consequently, the organisms, minerals, plants and the whole ecosystem are easily able to take up the nourishment that has been made available. • Are we thinking about this in a hydroponic garden? www.pea-green-boat.co.uk/about_the_calendar.htm

  9. Results: Butternut Squash = same hydro drip system in ProMix 1 Tblsp BD Compost LFT CONTRL RT

  10. What are Subtle Energies? • DEFINITION: difficult to understand or perceive(merriam-webster) …what we can’t measure • Living Water • Vortex • Perspective: Change your mindstyle!

  11. SUBTLE ENERGIES • Outside the measurement of the machines humans have calibrated; More profound than what we can measure. • Acupuncture, homeopathy, yoga, meditation, chakras, etc. • Resonance – why we don’t fall apart… • Physical  Etheric  Atral  Ego • Punch a tornado, a resonance creates physicality • Creates order amongst chaos; this is all accomplished via the organization of subtle energies that we cannot measure, and that no one talks about…

  12. Subtle Energies How does the fungi know how to catch the lesionous nematode? How does 10x the Calcium come out of a worms ass?

  13. Living Water • Why does a river meander? • Tap Water = Dead Virgin Spring = Alive • We can know this, but… how do we measure the difference!?

  14. Example: Masaru Emoto

  15. VORTEX • Steiner stir preps • Water made vulnerable • VB - Chaos to Organization

  16. Implosive Energy Regeneration Biomagnetism Levitation Integration of energy Inward Explosive Energy Destruction Electricity Centrifugal Ideology Combustion Engine Outward Viktor Schauberger Nature Man Why are we not thinking about these concepts our gardens?

  17. Where did we go wrong? • EDUCATION • Analytical, data driven thinking, replicability • If we only know what we are taught we will never know anything. • Limitations of LANGUAGE • Water • Salt • Compost • MOTIVE - No morality in capitalism • Materialism - Using toxins in our lawns and gardens • 93% of salt worldwide for industrial purpose • EMPTY FOOD! • Vicious Cycle: We’re fooling ourselves! • Doing the same things and expecting a different result = INSANITY Example: lawn maintenance, table salt, pharmaceuticals, etc.

  18. It all starts with how we think about it. • Why does a plant grow up? Levity • Sow by the moon, plant on waxing moon… • Newton’s Apple / 2nd LAW of Thermodynamics • Levity = Fish up a waterfall • BD addresses plant desires • Can our bodies (sense) experience malnutrition? Empty Food Can a plant evoke a deficiency of A mineral that is not VITAL? • Thoughts drive actions.

  19. Ex: Miracle Grow 15-30-15 • Nitrogen (N) • Phosphorous (P) • Potassium (K) • Calcium (Ca) • Magnesium (Mg) • Sulfur (S) • Boron (B) • Chlorine (Cl) • Cobalt (Co) • Copper (Cu) • Iron (Fe) • Manganese (Mn) • Molybdenum( Mb) • Nickel (Ni) • Sodium (Na) • Zinc (Zn) 15% 30% 15% MISSING MISSING MISSING .02% MISSING MISSING .007% .15% .05% .0005% MISSING MISSING .06%

  20. The Lawn • Change your mindstyle! • Weeds are information! • Pests / antennae • Miracle Grow = Fast Food • Dis-ease is a result of a bad diet • Parallels are life!

  21. Weeds • Weeds are information! • Dandelion (BD506) = Fix and return Ca to soil • Health food or kill it? • Stinging Nettle (BD504) • Create Balance  edge of road • Average lawn today is a disturbed environment

  22. Pest Antennae • Example - Mosquito antennae, exoskeletal chitinous extensions, known as "setae", they provide feedback to the mosquito as to chemical, thermal, and tactile changes in its environment • Pests cannot digest complete proteins • Nitrates can’t help but create Amino Acids • Joel Sternheimer • Sonic Bloom • Formaldehyde, Ammonia  Infrared • COMPLETE DIET? ….. Indoors…. Copy Nature

  23. Soil is Alive! 1 acre of soil (6”)= 2-3 lbs of mammals, 133 lbs of protozoa, 900lbs of earthworms, 2000 lbs of bacteria, 2400 lbs of fungi 1 tsp compost = up to 1 million bacteria, 120,000 fungi, 50,000 protozoa, and 300 nematodes! YOU TELLING ME THAT ALL OF THIS LIFE IS REPLACED BY 13-15 Elements

  24. Soil vs. Hydro

  25. Natural?

  26. Framework • Supplements - we understand how to supplement in an artificial environment PHYSICALLY, but are we supplementing EVERYTHING??? • Soil (alive)  Feed through biology • Nurture the intelligence of nature • Hydroponics (artificial)  Feed the plant • Growing medium is like a sponge • You can grow a plant with 13 Elements, what happens when you give a plant ALL Elements? • PARADOX: We literally create all of the problems we are trying to “kill”!

  27. Ex: Miracle Grow 15-30-15 • Nitrogen (N) • Phosphorous (P) • Potassium (K) • Calcium (Ca) • Magnesium (Mg) • Sulfur (S) • Boron (B) • Chlorine (Cl) • Cobalt (Co) • Copper (Cu) • Iron (Fe) • Manganese (Mn) • Molybdenum( Mb) • Nickel (Ni) • Sodium (Na) • Zinc (Zn) 15% 30% 15% MISSING MISSING MISSING .02% MISSING MISSING .007% .15% .05% .0005% MISSING MISSING .06%

  28. Element Interaction

  29. How? • Bring Outdoor energies IN ! • VortexBrewer.com • Progress Earth Products • Copper Tools • Living Water! • Rain Barrel, FlowForm, Stirwand

  30. Rainwater Harvesting • Living water for free!! • Rain drops spiral as they fall! • Divert overflow from gutters • Integrate into grow rooms (expound) • No chlorine, ammonia, fluoride, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, etc. • WOW!

  31. Quantum Gro 2 oz / Gallon Control Imagine using less water with better results…

  32. Why? • Goethe – Never take a natural truth from an artificial experiment -Degenerative Disease -CCD -Environmental Degeneration -Empty Food

  33. Why? Q: Why is the will for carrying out our spiritual intentions so weak? A: Steiner said: “This is a problem of nutrition. Nutrition as it is to-day does not supply the strength necessary for manifesting the spirit in physical life. A bridge can no longer be built from thinking to will and action. Food plants no longer contain the forces people need for this.” (The Agriculture Course, p7)

  34. Reading List • Secrets of the Soil, by Tompkins and Byrd • The Agriculture Course, by Steiner • Sea Energy Agriculture, by Charles Walters • Fertility from the Ocean Deep, by Walters • The Wheatgrass Book, by Ann Wigmore …never ends…

  35. CONCLUSIONS • Potential of how to talk about these things in your store  ASK ! • Biodynamics is a tool to making sense of food production and has unlimited potential for indoor gardeners • NPK Primary Nutrients Complete Nutrition Complete Nutrition = Physical AND Energetic
