This action plan aims to adopt and implement innovative 21st-century teaching methods in Grade 6 mathematics at The City School Junior Boys, PECHS. Our long-term goal is to enhance student productivity and skills through a student-centered learning approach that fosters participation and critical thinking. Short-term goals include maximizing technology use, developing problem-solving skills, and applying mathematics concepts to daily life. We will address challenges through parental engagement and collaboration with colleagues. Join us in empowering our students for the future!

Long-term Goal • To adopt and implement 21st century Teaching and Learning approaches in order to enhance student productivity and skills.
Short-term Goals • Involving and encouraging student participation and practicing student-centered learning instead of teacher-centered learning. • Develop alternatives to enhance pupils problem solving skills. • Maximizing the use of technology, to support development of lessons. • Developing concepts and different methods to apply in mathematics in daily life.
Topics to be covered Subject: Mathematics Grade: VI Topics: • Fractions • Percentages • Ratio Rate and Speed • Area and Perimeter • Volume and Surface Area • Geometrical Concepts • Fundamental Algebra
Instructional Strategies and Tasks • Adopt student-centered approach to ensure student participation • Encourage productive group discussions and idea sharing on topics that will promote higher-order thinking. • Confidence building and concepts enrichment. • Enhance overall problem solving skills. • Ask questions that encourage critical thinking.
Solutions to Anticipated Challenges Challenges Solutions • Approval from the Head and Principal after a detailed discussion • Conduct a meeting with the parents informing them about the benefits of the new approach through newsletter. • Integrating the curriculum with the ICT curriculum. • Forming a liaison with other Mathematics teachers to exchange resources and acquire feedback • Permission from the Principal. • Parents may not approve of the new methods • Availability of Computer Lab • Availability of subject specialists/ coordinator for feedback .
Timeline Create awareness regarding the curriculum and the newly adopted techniques/approaches.
