  2. El Subjuntivo is necessary if • there is a main clause and dependent clause • “que” is used to connect clauses (except tal vez and quizás) • there is a change of subject • there is a palabra Clave (Trigger Word)

  3. Por Ejemplo: • La mujer quiereque su hija haga la tarea. (subj.) • La mujer sabeque su hija hace la tarea. (indic.) • La mujer quierehacer la tarea. (infin.) Escucha esta canción usando el subjuntivo!

  4. La Formación The formation of the present subjunctive is very similar to the Ud. command form of the verb. The root of the verb is the “yo” form of the present indicative with an opposite vowel ending.

  5. La Formación de Verbos Regulares • Use the “yo” form of the verb as your stem. • Hablar -> hablo • Comer -> como • Vivir -> vivo

  8. Verbos Irregulares • Verbs that don’t end in “o” in the first person are irregular in the Present Subjunctive.

  13. Verbs of Will and Influence • These verbs always trigger the subjunctive… • Aconsejar • Desear • Importar • Insistir (en) • Mandar • Necesitar • Pedir (e-i) • Preferir (e-i) • Prohibir (accent all but nosotros) • Querer (e-ie) • Recomendar (e-ie) • Rogar (o-ue) • Sugerir (e-ie)

Los Detalles (details) • Indirect object pronouns are often used with the verbs aconsejar, importar, mandar, pedir, prohibir, recomendar, rogar, sugerir • The infinitive is used if there is no change of subject. Que is ommitted when no change of subject is occurring. • Es mejor estudiar cada noche. • Es importante sacar la basura. • Paco prefiere descansar.
