  3. History of Dogs on Deployment

  4. DoD’sStory • Dogs on Deployment was founded in 2011 by a dual military couple, Alisa and Shawn Johnson, who serve in the US Marine Corps and US Navy respectively. They owned a dog, JD, who they could not care for during their dual military commitments. They found family to rely on, but recognized not all military families do. They decided to help.

  5. Dogs on Deployment Founders 1stLt Alisa Johnson and LT Shawn Johnson, pose with their dogs, JD and Jersey. They are the proud owners of two dogs, two cats and two parrots. Their passion is helping other military members and their pets.

  6. 2014 DoD Mascot, Midas In 2014, Dogs on Deployment held its second-annual Military Pet of the Year and Mascot Competition. Sgt Juan Valdez, and his dog, Midas, won by popular vote. Juan is a Marine combat-veteran, and Midas is his PTS (Post-Traumatic Stress) Service Dog. Together, Dogs on Deployment and Sgt Valdez are working towards raising awareness for the benefits of Service Dogs for veterans and increasing aid given to our returning troops through the 2014 campaign, Midas Cares.

DoD’sGoals • DoD aims at having DoD Boarders located near all major military bases in the United States • DoD will become a first resource for military members to turn to when they need long term boarding for their pets • DoD plans to increase the rights and education that pet owners have while serving active duty in the military • DoD will help promote the military-pet community by providing a database of partnered pet related businesses which support their troops through discount and incentive programs • DoD helps qualified military members with the cost of pet care during emergencies, and/or before and during deployments in order to promote responsible pet-ownership, providing financial assistance to get military pets spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and help with cost of pet care. This is known as our Pet Chit Program.
