HYDROEXPERT LOGON

  • Run HydroExpert
  • Desktop version
    • Double click the HydroExpert into your desktop area.
  • Mobile version
    • Find HydroExpertLaunch into your pen drive or SD card. Select HydroExpert or HydroData and click on “Start” button.
  • Logon with Convidado
    • This is the “Guest” logon.

NEW STUDY

  • Create a New Study under HydroSim XP Model
  • Choose HydroSim XP
    • In the HydroExpert’s “Study Navigator” click on “HydroSim > HydroSim XP” model category.
  • Use the Study menu
    • Choose the "Study > New..." menu command. You will see a "New Study" created with the 98 MW “UHE Jurumirim" hydroplant on it.
  • HydroData
    • Here you can navigate in the Brazilian’s 150-plant database.

CHOOSE PLANT AND RESERVOIR

  • Change the Simulation Horizon
  • Time Horizon
    • With the "Simulation horizon" controls, choose a time horizon to your study.
    • For example, change the number of days to 7 (one week).
    • Change the time interval from 30 minutes to one hour using the “Config” tab into "Simulation horizon“ panel.

DECISION INPUT DATA

  • Determine the Operation
  • Operation & Decision
    • Select the "Policy" tab. Fill out the "Outflow" (in m³/s) column as an decision policy for this reservoir. For example, you can fill out 300 m³/s.
    • Hint: fill out one cell, right click on it and choose “Replicate Cells” to fill the entire column.
    • You can decide Hydro Generation and unit commitment (columns “H. Gen.” and “*”).

SETUP INFLOW

  • Fill out the Reservoir’s Inflow
  • Reservoir’s Inflow
    • Select the "Inflow" tab. Fill out the "Incremental inflow grid" (in m³/s) for the "Jurumirim" reservoir. For example, you can fill out 50 m³/s. This example will simulate a operational scenario with high outflows compared to the inflows.
    • Hint: fill out one cell, right click on it and choose “Replicate Cells” to fill the entire column.

RESERVOIR’S INITIAL VOLUME

  • Setup the Reservoir’s Initial Condition
  • Reservoir’s Initial Volume
    • Select the "Advanced" tab. Setup some "Initial volume" for the "Jurumirim" reservoir. For example, setup at 80% of usage.
    • Note: the “Limit volume” permits setup a security level as a constraint to the reservoir operation.

SAVE AND RUN

  • Let’s Run this Study
  • Simulating...
    • Save your study data with the "Study > Save" menu.
    • To run the simulation model, use the "Study > Run" menu, or type the F9 key.
    • Results? Let’s see the “Results” tab...

RESULTS ANALYZES

  • Simulated Trajectories
  • Results Tab
    • First, let’s see the flow trajectories.
    • We can note that the 300 m³/s trajectory is equal to the Turbine Discharge. In other words, no spill will be present in this operation.
    • The discharge/outflow trajectory also satisfy the minimum outflow and maximum discharge limits.

  • The Storage Impact
    • With the outflow equals to 300 m³/s and with inflow equals to 50 m³/s, it is expected that the reservoir gets empty.
    • You can change the volume (vertical) axis to:
      • Water level (m);
      • Absolute volume (hm³, cubic hectometer);
      • Volume usage (%).

  • Advanced Simulation Results
  • Turbine Efficiency
    • The HydroSim XP can calculate Turbine Efficiency using the associated Hill Curve.
    • The Efficiency Hill Curve is stored in HydroData database and is automatically imported at the study creation step.
    • At HydroData frame you can find the “Paranapanema > Jurumirim” plant. See “Powerhouse > Units > Hill Curve” tabs.

  • Advanced Simulation Results
  • Hydro Generation
    • We can see the hydroelectric generation associated with the turbine release of 300 m³/s.
    • The generation trajectory is continuously decreasing due to the decreasing levels from the reservoir storage.
    • Also, we can see that the simulation model dispatches an 2-unit commitment to maximize the outflow.
