  1. Six Articles Of Faith – Islam

  2. The Qur’an describes a Muslim as one who believes in: • Tawhid • Angels • Books of Allah • Rusul • Akhira • Fate/Predestination

  3. Tawhid • Is the fundamental belief in Islam • Oneness of God and Humanity • Qur’an teaches that God is One and Only • Expressed in the Shahada “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his Prophet” • This is recited daily by devout Muslims • Allah is eternal and all powerful • Those who believe in the Tawhid are united in the Umma (worldwide Muslim community)

  4. Mala’ika – Angels • Begins with the revelation of Allah to the Prophet by the angel Jibril • Spiritual beings who serve as God’s messengers – speak on behalf of Allah • Angels are acknowledged during daily Salat (prayer) • Angels are believed to provide guidance

  5. Books of Allah • God’s intentions are reveals through the Books • God revealed his truths to the prophets • These holy books include: • Torah of Moses • Psalms of David • Gospels of Jesus • Qur’an Muslims believe that the Qur’an is the most complete and true of all the Books (as they believe that over time the original teaching of other texts became distorted)

  6. Books of Allah • Muslims accept the truth of Qur’an intellectually and practice obedience to the law in their daily live • The Quran: - 604 pages- 114 Chapters - over 6200 verses • It was revealed over 23 years starting from 610 CE • Was written and memorised by many during the life of Muhammad and compiled into a text a year after the death of the Prophet

  7. Rusul – Prophets • Qur’an identifies many prophets/messengers before Muhammad • Muslims believe that Muhammad is the last of all messengers sent down by God (the seal) • Qur’an names 25 prophets (e.g. Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David and Jesus) • All taught messages contained in the Qur’an:e.g. Moses taught the 10 CommandmentsJesus taught the Golden Rule • All teachings before Muhammad were blemished by falsification and to rectify this Allah sent the Qur’an to the Seal of the Prophets – thus becomes the final and complete revelation of Allah

  8. Akhira - Afterlife • Qur’an describes itself as a book of warning • Akhira is life after death where Muslims will be judged for their actions and inactions • Resurrection: Everyone will rise body and spirit and records of thoughts and actions will be examined “We shall set up scales of justice for the Day of Judgement” Sura 21:47

  9. Fate/Predestination • Grand plan and sequence of events observed in the universe that are beyond human control • In Islam, Evil is created as a consequence of a person’s misuse of will • Man chooses to respond in a particular way • God does not choose evil, people do, God allows it because he has given free will • Evil is explained in Islam as the “absence of good” • Responsibility and accountability comes with the freedom of choice
