  3. Ingesting God’s Word Critical to Spiritual Maturity Are you “bored” or “stagnant”? Growing, or meandering in your walk w/Jesus? Jeremiah 15:16 – “Thy words… I ate them!” James 1:21 – “receive the Word implanted…” Hebrews 5:11-14 “milk, solid food” 1 Peter 2:1 – “newborn babes long for the pure milk of the Word…”

  4. Beginning with “Milk,” Read! “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16). Start with easier passages: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John

  5. Study the Word of GodWhat Does This Say? • Revelation insight of the Lord? • Revelation of your heart? • Promise? • Command? • Study by passage,book, or topic

  6. Meditate = “Ruminate”

  7. Meditate on the WordWhat does this mean? • Psalm 1:2 – “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he mediates both day and night.” • Proximity required – Martha and MaryLuke 10:38-42

  8. Q: How Does This Apply?i.e. so what? • The Word given not to entertain; not just inform; but to TRANSform... • 1 Thess 2:13 – “performs a work in us” • Hebrews 4:12 – “judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart” The process? Identify flesh, repent/crucify flesh, and reshape in the likeness of Jesus! Romans 8:29 – “He predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son…”

Memorize the Word – Psalm 119:11Function: “not sin against Thee!” • Making “friends” with passages! • Specific verses by topic (evangelism, etc) • “Chunk” passages – Psalm 23, Birth narratives, The Beatitudes • Key Gospel passages John 3:16, Romans 3:23 • Key flow of chapters / books (focus 1 Gospel) • Blocks of material (Chapters)

  10. Results of Ingesting the Word  Jeremiah 15:16 – “His Word becomes a joy and a delight in heart” Psalm 1:3 – “He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water…yields fruit…leaf does not wither…”
