  1. Staying On – Rossett Sixth FormPresentation evening 2014

  2. The Benefits of A Levels (and other Level 3 Qualifications) • Greater options for employment, apprenticeships or university. • Graduates on average earn £200,000 more in a lifetime than non-graduates. • A level entry requirement for some apprenticeships • Individuals with higher education qualifications are more likely to be employed. • All students in year 11 must remain in education or training for two more years (RPA).

  3. What Students Need to Succeed

  4. Results at Rossett • Based on our recent results across all subjects and all qualification types our students achieve grades in line with their A level targets. • So whatever the subject, students are statistically likely to achieve their target grade at Rossett. • This means that we are successful at helping our students to achieve their potential, whatever their starting point.

  5. Results at Rossett • 100% pass rate. • 40% A*-B. • 70% of last year’s students secured a place at university or college. • An increasing proportion progress to the elite universities (32% Russell Group and Sutton Trust) – see our Rossett Stars. • 30% of our students started an apprenticeship or entered full time employment.

  6. We know your strengths • Support from a dedicated team of subject specialists allow students to make progress. • Smaller class sizes in many subject areas means that students benefit from more ‘teacher time’. • Students know the staff already and appreciate how willing we are to give extra support when it is needed. • Rossett teachers know students’ strengths already and can work with them, from day one, to maximise their potential.

  7. Support & Guidance • OUTSTANDING pastoral care and guidance – latest OFSTED report. • Subject teachers know students already. With only nine months in the Sixth Form before University applications begin we believe that our knowledge of students helps us to write more detailed, personal references. • Dedicated team of Year 13 tutors help with personal statements and UCAS applications.

  8. Support & Guidance – Specialist Programmes • Aim Higher group for the most able students to develop critical thinking skills and help them in their applications to the elite universities. • DMV group to support applicants to medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine. • Primary Education group. • Law group – several of our students have been accepted on the prestigious Pathways to Law programme. • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

  9. Enrichment Opportunities • All students benefit from being part of the Rossett ‘school community’ where they can demonstrate leadership, empathy, care and responsibility towards younger students. • Listeners, Paired Readers, Rossett Ambassadors, Rossett Sports Ambassadors, Sixth Form Committee, Charities Week, Compulsory In-Class Support, Sixth Form Science Council. • These ‘soft skills’ are highly valued by employers and admissions tutors.

  10. Retention AT ROSSETT • Our retention figures from Year 12 to Year 13 are above the national average and reflect our commitment to every student. • Almost all our students who start in Year 12 will complete their courses with us in Year 13. • We work extremely hard to ensure that students remain on courses and that they succeed.

  11. SIXTH FORM FACILITIES • Office dress. • Sixth Form Cyber Café, open all day. • Two dedicated study rooms and a designated Sixth Form area of the library provide good ICT facilities and a quiet place to work. • Ability to leave school site during ‘non-contact’ time (with some ‘strings’). • Permission to bring cars on site.

  12. Courses & Entry Requirements • Over 30 courses to choose from. • Can study A levels, Applied A levels and BTEC level 3. Can ‘mix and match’. • A levels generally require grade B in that subject at GCSE. • Ideally 7GCSE grades at C or above.
