What is Dyslexia? • Dyslexia is a learning disability that alters the way the brain processes written material. It is typically characterized by difficulties in word recognition and spelling. A child with dyslexia may learn to read significantly later than his peers, despite having average or above average intelligence.

What causes Dyslexia? • Dyslexia is a highly hereditable learning disorder. • A small minority of people that have dyslexia were not born with it. These cases are usually caused by a stroke or brain injury.
SuPerWackYFun FaCts • Those with dyslexia use only the right side of the brain to process language, while non-dyslexics use three areas on the left side of the brain to process language. • Dyslexia is by far the most common learning disorder. Almost 10% of the population has it. • Of those who are placed in special education for a learning disability, around 80% of those have dyslexia.
Dyslexia as a Gift • There are websites dedicated to make people think that dyslexia is a gift. They label themselves as “Multi-Dimensional Freethinkers”. • Their argument is based around the large amount of famous figures who have/had dyslexia: Albert Einstein, Jack Nicholson, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, Robin Williams, Tom Cruise, Benjamin Franklin, and Winston Churchill.
EFFECTS Of Dyslexia • The effects that dyslexia have on a person vary significantly. While the most common problems come during early reading, spelling, and writing, some dyslexics only have problems with more complex language skills such as grammar rules and writing essays.
