  1. Bias vs. Objective Battling for truth in a biased world.

  2. Scenario… An exchange student has come to Lebanon High School from the Czech Republic. It is her first time visiting the United States on a student visa. As a result she spends Christmas in America with her host family. During a phone call home, her host family overhears her conversation as she describes her disgust of American commercialism.

  3. Consider… • How might her dad respond to this comment (he has never visited the U.S.)? • How might her host family respond to this critique? • Why might their responses to the conversation differ? • What is it called when one’s perceptions are influenced by their ideologies?

  4. What is Bias? • A bias is a prejudice in a general or specific sense, usually in the sense for having a preference to one particular point of view or ideological perspective.

  5. What Is Objective? • Simply stated, the objective viewpoint is an attempt to present the most factual, truthful account of reality. • Journalists attempt to use objectivity in their news reporting.

  6.
