FINANCIAL CLIMATE What are the factors working against us? • Grant funding is irregular and competitive • Competition from other worthy charities • Competition from within your organization • State and federal funding for libraries is stagnant • Volunteer library boards are not usually comfortable with fundraising

  10. Mission Dedicated to creating tools and services to make charitable giving part of our everyday lives, JustGive is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase charitable giving by connecting people with the charities and causes they care most about.

How It Works • Donations to charities are collected via credit card on a secure site • Justgive retains 3% administrative fee for all donations • Checks are forwarded to the charity in the month following the donation • Donors receive an automatic receipt for tax purposes. • It’s easy and it works!

Getting Started • Go to the Justgive.org website – click the Nonprofit Resources button • Click the Nonprofit Add or Update Listing link • Register with Guidestar • GuideStar is an initiative of Philanthropic Research, Inc., a 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1994. GuideStar's mission is to revolutionize philanthropy and philanthropic practices through information. GuideStar provides JustGive’s comprehensive database of 1,000,000 public charities.

Mission • To fuse social responsibility with consumer spending in an easy-to-use online shopping environment; to provide socially-conscious consumers a unique means by which they can support their favorite organizations; to provide the charitable community a diverse source of funding for free; and to provide companies with an incentive and reward solution that allows them to better serve the communities within which they work. • Give while you shop!

How It Works • Giveline.org is an online store • Products sold include books, music CDs, DVDs, electronics, housewares, and specialty gift items • Every transaction in the online store generates a financial contribution to a favorite charity, school, or religious organization • Giveline contributes between 7 and 33 percent of product sales to the selected organization

Getting Started • Organizations can self-nominate or patrons can nominate organizations to be part of Giveline • When the organization is suggested by a user not directly involved or employed with it, organization is contacted for approval • Giveline checks the 501(c) 3 and school database to verify that recommended organizations are real and in good standing

Getting Started • Approval process • Giveline approves the organization immediately if there is a match with our IRS database or school database and the person submitting works for the organization • If the person submitting the application does not work for the organization they will approve or reject the suggestion within two business days

  24. Getting Started • Giveline will contact that organization to get their approval for entry into the Giveline system • Nonprofit organizations and all other causes must elect to participate and join Giveline • Cost to participate in Giveline: $ 0.00

  25. Getting Started • Checks are forwarded at the end of each quarter • Giveline does not send checks for less than $20 unless a special request is made - . If an organization has less than $20 of contributions during a particular quarter, that balance is rolled over into future quarters until the $20 threshold has been exceeded
