At Otahuhu College, we've crafted memorable lessons that spark passion in both students and teachers. Drawing from effective teaching strategies, we share three standout lessons: "Thrift Shop," "Vitruvian Homer," and "Calculus and the Zombie Apocalypse." These engaging topics not only challenge students but also revitalize their interest in math. As the Head of Faculty for Mathematics with 27 years of teaching experience, I aim to inspire a love for learning while overcoming challenges in our diverse environment. A little about me • Have taught secondary Math for 27 years, both in SA and NZ • In Middle – and Senior - management for about 15 years in total in both countries • Have taught for 8 years in NZ, in Hawkes Bay and in Auckland • Have taught BOYS for 20 years, so forgive the goriness of some of my examples!!!!! • Currently HOF Math at Otahuhu College , which is a Decile 1 co-ed school in the heart of South Auckland • Challenges facing our Math faculty at the start of 2014 : • 2013 Level 1 Numeracy had a 97% FAILURE rate!!!!! • 2013 Level 3 Calculus had virtually no-one pass Externals!!!!!!
