  2. Lies- An intentionally false statement Deception-The action or practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth. Definition

Claudius- Lies about murder of Hamlet’s father Deceitful about true opinion of Hamlet Lies to Rozencrantz and Guildenstern • Polonius- Hides behind the curtain Tells Laertes he has his blessing but spies on him • Horatio- Plays along with Hamlets deceptive plans • Ophelia- Deceptive about her father’s manipulation Characters

Laertes- Poison and sharp sword in battle against Hamlet • Hamlet- Play is an elaborate deception Deception of Rozencrantz and Guildenstern’s death Plots against his step-father/uncle Self-deception with the postponing of Claudius’ murder His madness draws away from other suspicious behaviour Characters

  5. The murder of Hamlet’s father King Claudius lies and deceives everyone about the murder of his brother. It was actually him that did it and then married his brother’s wife, but no one other than hamlet knows. • King Claudius sending Hamlet away The King lies to Gertrude saying that it would be better for the kingdom if Hamlet left for a while. He assures her Hamlet will be fine and it will work out for the better. In reality, he wants Hamlet gone because he knows too much and he orders that Hamlet be murdered once he leaves. • The play performed by visiting actors The play is a deception by Hamlet to find out if the king really did murder his father.   6. Polonius hiding behind the curtain in Gertrude's chamber King Claudius gets Polonius to spy on Hamlet and Gertrude for him, because he wants to see what Hamlet tells his mother. This is a deception that does not end well for Polonius. • Hamlet’s plan for revenge on King Claudius Hamlet lies and deceives everyone by committing treason and plotting against the king. Events

Polonius sending someone to check up on Laertes Polonius pretends he trusts his son but actually sends someone to spy on him instead. • Hamlet’s deception of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Hamlet sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to their death instead of the intended person, which was him. • The battle between Laertes and Hamlet Laertes and King Claudius deceive everyone and the battle is a ploy to murder Hamlet. The king lies and gives Hamlet poisoned wine while Laertes has a poisoned sword. Events

  10. John Marsden’s Hamlet shows us that… many people have hidden agendas that no one else is aware of. This is shown through many of the events and characters in this novel. • John Marsden’s Hamlet shows us that… certain situations can cause a person to lie and deceive, even if it goes against their morals as shown by the main character Hamlet.
