  2. Students, I am excited to be here and my team and I have planned to make this a fantastic year for you all. If you come to school each day focused and prepared, you will be successful. Success by choice, not by chance.

  6. The Schedule Today’s bell schedule will be different due to the adjustment made for the assembly. After today, we will be on a homeroom bell schedule until the 10th day of school.

Guidance Information Reading Your Schedule High School students schedules have 90 minute blocks, so your schedule reads as follows: Periods 1-2………..First 90 minute block class Periods 3-4…….….Second 90min block class Periods 5-6…….... Third 90min block class Periods 7-8………. Fourth 90min block class

Guidance Information continued Schedule Changes: Step 1: DO NOT GO TO GUIDANCE Step 2: Obtain a schedule change form from your homeroom teacher Step #3: Complete the form and take it home to have it signed by your parent Step #4: Return signed form to your homeroom teacher, who will return it to the Guidance Office You will be notified by your counselor if your schedule is changed.

  12. STUDENT INFORMATION PACKETS • Students who came to school on Saturday, August 13, 2011 for Early Schedule pick-up and completed their information packet will receive a certificate for ….. 2 Dress-down Days

STUDENT INFORMATION PACKETS Students who receive packets today are encouraged to return them by Friday, August 19, 2011 If 90% of the student body returns their packets by Friday, then on August 26, 2011, students will have their first of the season!!!! Let’s get those packets in!!! Athletic Pep Rally

Health Office Information Please make sure your BLUE emergency form is completed and returned to your homeroom teacher Your homeroom teacher will turn in the form to the Nurse’s Office/ School Clinic IMPORTANT: If your form is NOT complete, you cannot be issued any type of medication from the clinic

  15. 2011-2012 Student Expectations New Policies and Procedures at Burke Middle-High School

  16. Student ID Policy As a measure of safety in the schools, students will be required to have a school-issued ID card. That school ID: • Must be worn daily • Will be scanned at the Tardy Sweep Station • Will be scanned in the Cafeteria at meals • Will be scanned in the media center • Must be shown at events • Must be visible at all times

Dress Code Policy Student are reminded to adhere to the Dress Code by doing the following: All clothing must be worn in the manner for which it was designed. • Tuck in all shirttails • Wear the appropriate 3-button polo in correct class color • Wear pants at the natural waist … No Saggin • Undergarments should not be exposed • Shorts and skirts should be fingertip length • Hats or coufees are not allowed in the building • Headgear should be worn for health, safety, or religious reasons only • Only prescription eyewear, no sunglasses allowed in the building • Flip-flops and house shoes (slippers) are not allowed

  19. Dress for Success “Wearing appropriate dress to school promotes a positive influence on the school.” -CCSD policy

  20. Tardy Policy • At the sound of each tardy bell, teachers will shut and lock their classroom doors. • If you are tardy to class, you will be instructed to report to the TARDY SWEEP station, located in the upstairs rotunda. • Your ID card will be scanned and you will be issued a tardy.

Tardy Policy continued • Students with multiple tardies to class will be subject to disciplinary action • At the end of the 9weeks, students with no tardies will receive an incentive for getting to class on time. • Students without their ID will have to get a temporary ID made and then report to TARDY Sweep.

  22. Hall Pass Policy • Each teacher has been given a HALL PASS and RESTROOM PASS for their classroom. • Students will be allowed to use these passes only when traveling in the halls. • The passes must be worn around the neck with your ID. • Violations of hall pass use will result in loss of hall privileges.

  23. Electronic Devices Policy(Cellphones, I-Pods, MP-3 players, etc.) Per CCSD Policy “No student may use a cellphone or prtable communication device on school property during the day.” These devices are to be turned off (not vibrate mode) and stored out of sight.” - Code of Conduct

  24. Electronic Device Policy continued Violations to this policy • 1st Offense- device confiscated and returned at end of the day • 2nd Offense- device confiscated and returned to the parent/ guardian

  25. Student Clubs and Activities There will be a Club Sign Up Day for students to join the organizations and groups offered at BMHS. Listen for announcements During the first ten days of school, students will be asked to select a homeroom representative to serve as their senator for Student council • Each homeroom will select and vote on one homeroom representative

  26. Ms. Burke Middle-High School All senior young ladies listen to the morning announcements in the days ahead for information regarding the 2011 Ms. Burke Pageant
