  2. The Advancement Plan: • Provides boys with recognition • Gives them positive reinforcement • Provides them with an opportunity to learn new skills • Encourages their natural interests • The real value for the boys is in the learning and the experiences

  3. Tiger Cubs & Bobcat • Tiger Cubs Activities prepare boys for the Pack Advancement Plan • Seventeen (17) “Big Ideas” • Seventeenth Big Idea is earning Bobcat • The goal is graduation into the Pack • Bobcat is earned by ALL new Cubs • Five (5) Simple Achievements

  4. Wolf • All twelve (12) achievements listed are required • Approval of achievements is signed off by adult family members • Twenty-two electives are provided for earning Arrow Points

  5. Arrow Points • Electives are designed to maintain the boy’s interest After he has Earned the Wolf or Bear Rank Badge • The first ten (10) electives earn the Gold Arrow Point • All subsequent sets of ten (10) electives earn a Silver Arrow Point

  6. Bear • Twelve (12) achievements of the twenty-four (24) provided are required from four different groups • Approval is by adult family members • Twenty-four electives are provided for earning Arrow Points • Any achievements NOT used for Bear may be used for Arrow Points

  7. Immediate Recognition • The Immediate Recognition Beads provide an incentive to boys before they earn their Rank Badge • Beads are awarded immediately at the Den Meetings, as every set of three (3) achievements are completed • Yellow beads for Wolf and Red for Bear • Worn on right uniform pocket

  8. Webelos Advancement • Webelos Den Meetings focus on one of the twenty (20) Activity Badges • Most Activity Badges are approved by the Den Leader or an appointed adult • First-year boys earn the Webelos Badge • Second-year boys strive to earn the Arrow of Light Award

  9. Compass Points • Compass Points are another added incentive award for advancement • Boys that complete seven (7) Activity Badges earn the Compass Emblem • Boys earn Compass Points for each additional four (4) Activity Badges • It is also worn on the right pocket

  10. Advancement Records • Accurate record keeping is the Den Leader’s responsibility • The Pack obtains and presents the Award Badges with ceremony!

  11. Advancement Recognition • Present ALL Badges EXCEPT the Cub Scout Immediate Recognition beads at the Monthly Pack Meeting • Present the award to a family member, who will present it to the boy • Include Pocket Certificates and Mother’s Pins • Impressive ceremonies provide additional incentive to advance

  12. Graduation to Boy Scouting • Eligible at age 11 OR graduation from fifth grade OR earned Arrow of Light • Award Pack Graduation Certificates and hold a Bridging Ceremony • Make it impressive and memorable • Include the family and the Troop leadership in the ceremony

Summary • Advancement is directly related to the quality of your Pack and Den programs • Study Chapter 11 of the Cub Scout Leader Book for more details • Cub Scout Badges recognize that a boy has done his best and grown in Scouting • Recognition should follow immediately at the next Pack Meeting
