KIKGARD Inc. was started by J.R. Hudson, a retired police officer who served 36 years with the Houston Police Department as part of the crime prevention team. During his time as an officer, Hudson observed numerous home break-ins, the majority of which were accomplished by breaking through the ½ inch of doorjamb wood. After observing this common method of forced-entry, Hudson began to theorize about what might be a better solution to the weak doorjamb.That solution was the KIKGARD Shield.
