  2. The Beatles are coming • February 6thwas the 50th anniversary of the Beatles cming to America • How did news of the British band the Beatles spread in America in a time without social media?

Rolling Stones, Guitar Players and Animals • American British Blues • The United Kingdom became the home for traditional American blues music • It sounds weird, but Brits studied, preserved, were inspired by, and passed on the blues and “Black” music of the American south • Just like Cape Breton island is the home of traditional Scottish Fiddle music and technique • Rolling Stones – Formed as a British blues band • Mick Jagger and Keith Richards met in a bus station and approached each other because of the blues records they were carrying • Became on the of biggest bands in rock history (some have elevated them to the same status as the beatles • Have stayed together for 50 years of touring and making music

  4. Rolling Stones, Guitar Players and Animals • The Animals – British blues band that was popular during the late 60s. Toured with the Beatles and the rolling stones • Set themselves apart with “House of the rising Sun:” a change of pace and style from the music of the time • The YardBirds • American blues band that cycled through 3 of the top 5 guitar player of all time according to Rolling Stone Magazine • 1st - Eric Clapton – blues player that went on to be in and lead bands like the “Blues Breakers” and “Cream” • 2nd– Jeff Beck – blew away his audition – rogue guitar player never able to find a band good enough to measure up to his talent. (Walked out on the yard birds during a tour) • 3rd Jimmy Page – at the age of 13 was a member of a skiffle band looking forward to a career in Biological research who went on to become the expermental guitar player of Led Zepplin

Rolling Stones, Guitar Players and Animals • Jimi Hendrix • Widely acknowledged as the greatest rock guitar player ever • Wore a guitar from the moment he got out of bed in the morning • Had amazing command of the guitar – able to play solos and backup guitar as the same time • Died at the age of 27, at the height of his career • Led Zeppelin • 1st Heavy Metal band. Considered the greatest hard rock band ever • Made music during the 70s • Included the virtuosic guitar playing of Jimmy Page and the wide range and technically sound vocals of Robert Plant • Changed rock music and began the movement towards arena/stadium rock

This aspect of the movement rejected regular life (working, making money, voting, getting married, children)
