  5. Repaso:Future Tense

  6. 2 Ways to talk about the Future • IR a + Infinitive Voya comer la pizza ahora. Vamosa hacerla tarea. • Future Tense: Infinitive + Endings viajaréviajaremos viajarás viajaráviajarán Ej: Yoviajaré = I will travel *Same endings for AR, ER, and IR verbs!

  7. Decir - Dir- Poder - Podr- Haber - Habr- Hacer - Har- Saber - Sabr- Valer* - Valdr- *means to be worth Querer - Querr- Tener - Tendr- Poner - Pondr- Venir - Vendr- Salir - Saldr- IRREGULAR VERBSin the future tense are those that do notuse the INFINITIVE as the stem. Use these instead!

  8. Condicional = would…Paquete p. 14-15

  9. In Spanish, we make hypothetical statements…”IF”… using: Si (if) + imperfect subjunctive *You only have to know these four “if clauses” as vocabulary: If I, you, he etc. could If I, you, he etc. were (*ser: tall, rich, poor, smart, etc..) If I, you, he etc. had If I, you, he etc. were(*estar: happy, sick, tired, excited, etc..) • Si pudiera= • Si fuera= • Si tuviera= • *Si estuviera=(Please add!)

  10. Porejemplo: Ej: Si (yo) tuviera un millóndólares = If I had a million dollars… Ej: Si nosotrosfueramosricos= If we were rich… Ej: Si (yo) pudierahablar chino = If I could speak Chinese…

  11. In a hypothetical situation . . . What would you do? • If you had a million dollars. . . • Would you buy a car? A house? • Use the conditional tense to say what you WOULD DOin the hypothetical situation.

  12. Forming the CONDITIONAL TENSE • Start with the INFINITIVE 2. Add the following endings to the infinitive or irregular root ÍA ÍAMOS ÍAS ÍA ÍAN

  13. Práctica: Hablar -- yo Comer -- tú Vivir -- ella Escribir -- nosotros Practicar -- ellos Correr -- Ángel Yohablaría Comerías Ella viviría Escribiríamos Practicarían Ángelcorrería

  14. Página 15

  15. These irregular forms are the same as the FUTURE tense! Instead of using the infinitive, use the irregular root + endings! 1. Hacer = har- 2. Haber = habr 3. Saber = sabr- 4. Salir = saldr- 5. Poner = pondr- 6. Tener = tendr 7. Valer = valdr- 8. Querer = querr- 9. Poder = podr- 10. Decir = dir- 11. Venir = vendr- Conditional Irregulars

  16. Hacer (yo) Salir (ellos) Tener (nosotros) Haría Saldrían Tendríamos Irregulares: Práctica

  17. Memory Phrase • HarryhassixsaltypeanutstovisitqueenPattyduringvacation. • HacerQuerer • Haber Poder • Saber Decir • SalirVenir • Poner • Tener • Valer

  18. Putting it all together:If I were rich, I would help the poor Si fuerarica, ayudaría a los pobres “If” statement Conditional Tense “Would” Ayudaría a los pobressifuerarica

  19. Práctica: Put it all together.Si……, + conditonal. If I had 50 dollars, I would buy a lot of clothes. If I could leave tomorrow, I would go to Mexico. If I were tall, I would play basketball. If you had an A+, you would be happy.

  20. Now . . .Put the If clauses and the conditional tense together . . . Si tuviera 50 dólares, compraría mucha ropa. If I had 50 dollars, I would buy a lot of clothes. 2. Si pudiera salir mañana, iría a México. 2. If I could leave tomorrow I would go to Mexico. 3. Si fuera alta, jugaría baloncesto. 3. If I were tall, I would play basketball. 4. If you had an A+, you would be happy. 4. Si tuvieras una A+, estarías contento.

  21. Note: You DO NOT have to have an “ If ” (Si..) clause to use the conditional. The conditional can be used alone to simply say what you and others WOULD DO ¿Qué harías con el dinero? - What would you do with the money? Yo compraría un carro nuevo? - I would buy a new car.
