  1. WP4 - e-Infrastructure Services - & WP5 - Network Services - achievements Ramon Diacovo – WP4 Manager (UFRJ) Gilberto Diaz – WP5 Manager (ULA) Final Project Review, 11.10.2012 Brussels (Belgium)

  2. Reminder WP4 + WP5 Objectives Achievements & Perspectives WP4 Infrastructure Services WP5 Network Services Sustained e-Infrastructure & Network operation Handover Status Conclusions Outline GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 2

  3. WP4 & WP5 Objectives “Ensure the sustainability of the EU-LA e-Infrastructure” “Establish a powerful e-Infrastructure facility built on the EELA-2 legacy” • WP4 • Implement the catchall Grid Support Centre (GSC) • Implement a Grid Operations Centre (GOC) • Setup and operate the e-Infrastructure following the best practices recommended by EGI • WP5 • Implement the Network Support Centre (NSC) • Deploy Network monitoring tools • Deploy a ticket system to manage network issues GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012

  4. WP4: Achievements • The catchall Grid Support Centre (GSC) has been deployed • 2 Grid Operation Centres (GOC) are operational (UNAM, Uniandes) • The e-Infrastructure operation is fully EGI compliant through the adoption of common services and practices, of Operational Level Agreements (OLA) with RCs, etc. • Experienced Operation Teams (core & RCs) are in place (EELAs + GISELA legacy) • Baseline Operation tasks ensured routinely • Site integration support • Prod.vo.eu-eela.eu VO operation • Resource Centres oversight (monitoring, ticket handling) • Software deployment as requested by WP3 GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012

  5. WP4: CPU Cores integration + 3000 Cores, from Friend Institutions, open to Prod-VO Number of Cores, basically as committed in the DoW GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012

  6. WP4: RC / Resources situation ✔ ✔ WIP CPU, Storage resources by the end of GISELA • Less RCs than foreseen: • Expectations included former EELA-2 partners that are neither GISELA partners nor third parties • Grouping for cost-effective support GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 6

  7. WP4: e-Infrastructure load per RC Steady usage over the entire reporting period GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 Cumulative load per Resource Center (wall-time hours)

  8. WP4: e-Infrastructure Occupancy Consumed % • Percentage of consumed resources • Considers only the available resources • Depicts fair e-Infrastructure usage GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012

  9. WP4: e-Infrastructure availability Average above the DoWtarget GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012

  10. WP4: Ticket resolution time Number of tickets Days to solve • 142 total tickets during the 2nd project year • More than 66% solved in 7 days or less GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012

  11. WP5: Achievements • The Network Support Centre (NSC) has been deployed as Partition of the RedCLARA NSC • A perfSONAR Network platform is operational allowing to monitor inter-RCs network activity. It consists of: • 5 Measurements Points currently scattered over the region • A Web-based monitoring tool (MonGISELA) further adopted by the CLARA Work Group (GT-Mediciones) • A Ticket System has been installed to handle the network issues GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 11

  12. WP5: Monitoring Infrastructure perfSONAR Measurements Points MonGISELA Home Page Monitoring of network activity between RCs GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 12

  13. WP5: Inter-RCs network monitoring Performance assessment of the GISELA’s Network Infrastructure • Packets delay and packet loss rate (UFRJ - CEDIA) • Packets delay and packet loss rate (ULA - UFRJ) • Average delay of 120 milliseconds • Less than 1% average packet loss • Average delay of 80 milliseconds • 3% average packet loss GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 13

  14. WP4: Sustainability scheme / Handover Status GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 • Sustainability scheme: Mexico Declaration agreement • UNAM taking over the prod.vo.eu-eela.eu VO Operation • VOMS, MyProxy, LFC, LB, UI, WMS, AMGA already deployed • The only catch-all VO available for small research groups in LA (thanks to GISELA) • Handover Status (end of September 2012) • ROC Operations • Resource Centres handed over to ROC-LA (HEP LA ROC) • IGALC sites that are still active have been/are being handed over • Continuity of RC operation supported by each local Institution • Support still being given by the GSC to ensure the smoothest transition

  15. WP5: Sustainability scheme • Sustainability scheme • Future NSCas a Partition of RedCLARANSC • perfSONAR: standard support by RedCLARA • MonGISELAcared of by RedCLARA & GT-Mediciones GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 15

  16. WP4 & WP5: e.o. 2012 planning WP4WP5 GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 16 16 16

  17. Conclusions • WP4 & WP5 have successfully established Advanced Computing & Network resources for e-Science in Latin America, in legacy of EELA and EELA-2 • The Distributed Computing Infrastructure is constructed from the most natural “building blocks” • Resource Centres in Local Institutions providing computing & storage resources and their support • One distributed Operation Centre for the Core operations: ROC-LA merging the GSC and GOC functions • NRENs ensuring all Network services under the federative coordination of CLARA • The long-term of the DCI operation and support is granted by • A cost-effective agreement involving UNAM, Uniandes, CEDIA, etc. • Full EGI compliance GISELA – Final Project Review - Brussels – 11/10/2012 17
