  1. Friday, February 4, 2011Top Ten Reasons It's Fun To Be Justin Bieber 10. It's good to be a pop star without having to audition for Steven Tyler 9. I'm briefed each morning by the C.I.A. 8. Cross me and I'll have 50,000 screaming girls come to your house and mess you up 7. When I'm sick, my doctor makes hilarious jokes about "Bieber Fever" 6. The chance to visit the Late Show and my idol, Paul Shaffer 5. At the barber shop I can say, "Give me the me" 4. For joke #4, go see "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never", in theaters February 11th 3. Looking forward to starring in my CBS show, "CSI: Bieber" 2. If I tweet "I just sneezed", a billion people will tweet "Gesundheit" 1. Reading my fan mail from Letterman

  3. Top 10 Reasons to Use a Wiki

  4. #10: No More lost worksheets (At least of the ones that you create!)

  5. #10: No More lost worksheets • For my classroom of 20, I make 20 worksheets. • For anything that I create, I post a copy to the wiki. • Now, the responsibility falls to the student to either keep track of their one copy or to print a new one! • This also works great for field trip forms, permission slips, rubrics, and beginning of the year “stuff” you expect students & parents to hang onto for the entire year! • Beware of posting material in formats that can be easily viewed!

  6. #9: Project Guide at your Fingertips and theirs!

  7. #9: Project Guide at your fingertips and theirs • Got a project that will take the course of a quarter? Post the information on your Wiki, so you always have a quick copy of it to answer questions. • Give students the flexibility to work on it whenever they can without needing to many materials. • No Excuses from students! • Sometimes, inspiration strikes 10 minutes before class! Do you have time to type, print, AND copy the hand-out?

  8. #8: Go Green! Or, maybe the printer’s just not working in the computer lab…

  9. #8: Go Green! • Want a color copy of a project, but your school doesn’t have a color printer for student use? No problem! • Didn’t bring home your grading for that unexpected snow day? No problem! • Are you afraid of losing student work? No problem! • Do your students have messy handwriting? No problem! • Do your students just throw away the graded homework (and your thoughtful comments)? No problem!

  10. #7: Got Absent Students?

  11. #7: Got Absent Students? • Post the day’s assignment for them to print at home. • Post the day’s notes! • Push this at the beginning of the year, and students will start doing it automatically!

  12. #6: Not just for the big kids! (There’s less typing for sure!)

  13. #6: Not just for the big kids! • Post links to websites that you want your little ones to visit. • Stop worrying that they’ll stumble upon something bad! • Allow students to have some freedom of what they want to do without all of their hands in the air!

  14. #5: Post work so parents can see it!

  15. #5: Post Work so parents can see it! • How can you possibly hang a podcast on the wall? Just try stapling that cool animation on the bulletin board! • Parents are just as busy as teachers are! And, if you had the choice, wouldn’t you like to do everything in your comfy clothes?

  16. #4: Facilitate Discussion Boards & Encourage collaboration!

  17. #4: Facilitate Discussion boards & Encourage Collaboration! • Give your quiet students a voice. • Teach about social etiquette. • Create opportunities for your students to work with: • Students in other grades. • Students in other states. • Community members.

  18. #3: Get your students to participate

  19. #3: Get your students to participate • There are two types of students when it comes to taking notes: • Those that write down EVERYTHING! • Those that write down NOTHING! • Help out both by posting the class notes!

  20. #2: Safe & Protected

  21. #2: Safe & protected • Wikispaces provides FREE premium Wikis for K12 teacher use. • Look into your security options. • “History” shows you who is making edits.

  22. #1: Fun & easy!

  23. #1: Fun & easy! • No prior experience is necessary! • If you can cut and paste, I’m confident that you can also use a Wiki!

  24. To the Wiki! Let’s Play, Learn, Question, and Brainstorm!
