  1. By: Jessica Lucero Medieval Queens

  2. Queens of Medieval Times Queens of Medieval times were very different than rulers of today. A queen was to be loyal, smart and very hardworking. They were a big part of life in Medieval times.

  3. A Queen’s Royal Meal A Queen’s meal consisted of many different things. A meal for a Queen consisted of beef, mutton, eggs, dried peas, beans, onions and various fruits and vegetables. The meal was prepared by skilled chefs chosen by the King and Queen.

  4. A Queen’s Dwelling A Queen lived in a big castle on her manor. The castle was built to withstand attacks from invaders, like a fort. The castle was mainly built out of bricks and had many rooms. The castle also had dungeons and several tall, sturdy towers.

  5. A Queen’s Wardrobe Queens wore many beautiful outfits. The majority of her outfits were fitted sleeve tunics (ankle length) under a lose tunic, which was shorter. The outer tunic was made out of silk, cotton, taffeta or lace. The whole outfit consisted of bright colors. A queen wore her hair plaited and covered with fabric made out of silk. She also wore a beautifully decorated crown. Her shoes were made out velvet or silk. Only kings and queens were aloud to wear fur.

  6. Marriage for Queens A queen was to marry a very wealthy and powerful king. Most of the time, they would marry each other without even loving one another. They would have a royal ceremony and they would also have a big feast.

  7. A Queen’s Royal Duties A queen’s main duty was to get married to a powerful king and give birth to an heir. An heir is the son of a king who will be king when the king dies. A queen also had to act as regent when the king’s away. The queen was also required to act as the military leader when the king was gone. The queen had to be wise because she was the one who taught and educated her children.

  8. Recreation A queen didn’t have time for recreational activities. Religious holidays gave the queen a well deserved break. When a queen did have free time, she would go in the garden and pick flowers. She would also play some type of board game with royal playing pieces.

  9. The End As you can see, life back then was pretty hard and cool for medieval queens. I hope you’ve learned more about queens from this power point, I know I have!
