  1. What is the process of surrogacy treatment? Giving birth to a baby after marriage is a normal process! Strangely, nature does have some quirks that disprove this theory. Couples who are unable to conceive naturally even after years of trying, may be able to succeed eventually! This is done through artificial procedures recommended by their fertility doctor. While the assisted reproductive techniques are varied with a solution available for almost all kinds of infertility, the option of surrogacy has been gaining ground in India after the Surrogacy Bill of 2019 has been approved by the parliament. Gestational surrogacy is in high demand right now among older infertile couples. This process uses the IVF procedure with the resultant embryo or blastocyst transferred into the uterus of the surrogate who happens to be a healthy woman who has already given birth earlier. The entire procedure is not so simple though with the couple requiring to pass through various stages before they get to welcome their baby. Application

  2. You and your partner would have to make a detailed application to your chosen surrogate agency for beginning the process. You have to answer a number of questions, both medical as well as legal in order to meet the required regulations. Once the agency approves of you as a candidate, you need to fill multiple forms and share all records pertaining to your fertility status with the doctor in charge of the process. The medical records will be assessed by fertility experts and a file created once you meet all the criteria needed for surrogacy. Screening You and your partner will be screened by the agency that begins with a round of questions and face to face meeting, either physically or via a video call. You will be evaluated at length with mental health experts also being involved in the process. A background check will also be conducted on both of you. Any adults living in your households need to clear the background check as well. The cost of undergoing surrogacy process will also be discussed at length. You may also divulge the type of medical insurance cover you have so that the professional can help you maximize the amount as and when you make a claim. Matching You can now look forward to meeting the woman who would be carrying the fetus in her womb. The agency will have a list of available surrogates and you will be able to meet the one you select by checking the reviews. You will have a physical meeting at the clinic in order to assess her before giving the final nod. The surrogate mother will have to undergo a complete physical checkup right after you select her. Legalities You have to enter into a legal agreement with the surrogate in accordance with the regulations. While you are welcome to bring your legal representative, the surrogate would have one representing her too. The agency will oversee the process and check that all conditions have been included in the document. Breakup of the expenses is also added in the document as well as the time for making the required payments. This process will be finalized after both the parties sign the document in presence of their representatives as well as that of the agency.

  3. IVF In-vitro fertilization will take place according to the norms. A team of top fertility experts will perform the process meticulously in order to ensure development of embryos. Pre – Implantation genetic screening (PGS) is carried out to eliminate the possibility of chromosomal defects in the baby. Assisted hatching may be conducted to improve the success rate of implantation. Pregnancy proceeds as normal once the embryo implants itself to the lining of the surrogate mother’s uterus. Delivery The surrogate may stay at home or at the clinic depending on her health status. You are encouraged to be present at every stage of the pregnancy and accompany the surrogate while she undergoes a number of tests after confirmation of pregnancy. The baby is delivered by Caesarean section under the supervision of the top gynecologists and fertility doctors. You would be provided with a provisional birth certificate afterwards.
