  2. Preface • The current reform of education system in Serbia involves also improvements in the way of teaching including also lecturing at Universities • The present regime of study is considered to be very rigid and not flexible enough to capture the fast development of various scientific areas, which particularly applies to dynamic fields as computer science and engineering • Adopting of alternative ways of teaching may help to resolve the problems in this respect.

  3. Summer Schools • Summer Schools are a usual practice that offers a possibility to present advanced topics in a condensed manner and trace the way for introducing new regular courses based on eventually positive experiences through this way of lecturing • This talk presents some experiences in the organization of Summer Schools in Computational Intelligence and Information Technologies at the last three years at the Faculty of Electronics Niš

Summer School Support • The Summer Schoolsin 2002 and 2003 have been organized as a part of activities at the project Network of Excellence in South-Eastern Europe on the subject of Computational Intelligence supported by DAAD • The School is hosted by the Faculty of Electronics, Niš, in a cooperation with Department of Computer Science, University of Dortmund, Dortmund, Germany, and supported by University of Niš, University of Belgrade, Institute “Mihailo Pupin” in Belgrade and Soft Computing Society of Serbia

Aim of Summer School • The organization of Summer Schools was a continuation and extension of attempts to develop and improve teaching and research work in this and related areas in this region of South-East Europe • The intention was to bring together advanced students and young researchers from both academia and industry from countires in the region • Offer a forum for learning, discussions, exchange of experiences and results, and share friendship within the research community, in order to enlarge the knowledge in Computational Intelligence and Information Technologies • and related areas

Summer School Area • The Summer Schools on Computational Intelligence and Information Technologies were intended to provide a series of lectures in this area that cover, but are not limitted, to the following subjects: Fuzzy LogicNeural NetworksDigital System DesignSignal ProcessingInternet Programming • Lecturers were experts in the area from different Universities in Germany, Finland, Russia, Israel, and Serbia.

How to be a student of Summer School? • Organizers send e-mail (with Summer School Web address) to the Universities in region of South-Eastern Europe • Student get information about School (time, place, content, …) via Summer School Web site • Student download RegistrationForm from Web site,fill out it and send as E-mail attachment to the chair of the Summer School • (Optional) Student download Application for Grant Form from Web site, fill out it and send as e-mail attachment to the chair of the Summer School • Organizers check personal information about students • Organizers make the decision about the amount of the grant when all the applications have been received (in case more grants are applied for than available, the organizers make a selection) • Student receive e-mail from organizers about grant • (Optional) Student download Accommodation Form from Web site, fill out it and send as e-mail attachment to the organizers. • Organizers reserve a proper number of rooms at the hotel “Ambasador” in down town of Niš
