  5. Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streamsof water, whichyield their fruit

  6. in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for theLord watches overthe way of the

  7. righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

  18. *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) We come into your presence with thanks, Creator God, for all that fills our lives with joy: the love of family and friends, the comfort of our homes,

  19. the challenge of work and the delight of leisure. Forgive us that too often we have taken all these for granted, failing to see them as your gifts. In this time of worship, stretch our understanding,

  20. that we may know our lives in the perspective of your sovereign authority. Teach us to live in the world with faithfulness to your intention for the world, and to be at home wherever your spirit leads us;

  21. through Jesus Christ your faithful witness. Amen. • (silence is observed for individual reflection and prayer)

  22. ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: The good news is that Christ calls us to new life and enables us to begin again and again and again and again. Friends, believe the good news of the gospel.

  26. When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up to the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will becomforted.

  27. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed arethe peacemakers,

  28. for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falselyon my account.
