Introduction • From the beginning itself women have had a lower representation in Poker games, be it live or online. But with passing time, they are rapidly making their presence felt on the Poker table. Many times the women Poker players get overlooked in this male dominated game. Thus this article is a tribute to the fact that women are no less than men, be it any field, any game. • Let’s meet some of the many women Poker players who were too bright to not shine:
1) Vanessa Selbst • Selbst is an American professional Poker player. • She has an unrivaled position as a female Poker player and is considered one of the best Poker players in the world. • About 12 years ago Selbst started playing online Poker and got serious about the game. Since then she has made over 10 million dollars by playing several live and online tournaments. • She is the first and only female to win three WSOP bracelets in open field events. She is the only woman to ever reach the number one ranking in the world on the Global Poker Index. • In January 2013 Selbst won the PCA high roller for $1.4 million, which made her the highest earning female in Poker history.
2) Vanessa Rousso • Rousso is also an American professional Poker player with over $3.5 million in career earnings. • Her most impressive performance was at the EPT Grand Final in Monaco in 2009, when she outwit some of the best Poker players to win the high roller championship for more than $700,000. • She ranks among the top five women in Poker history in terms of all-time money winnings. • Rousso also hosts her own Poker camp in Florida and is a strong advocate for the game.
3) Kathy Liebert • Since almost two decades Liebert has made a regular appearance in the World Series of Poker, making her first WSOP final table in 1997. • She has made it to the World Poker Tour (WPT) finals five times. • The highlight of her bright career came when she won the first Party Poker Million event in 2002, the first limit Poker tournament with a $1 million prize. • Liebert also appeared on and won Poker Royale: Battle of the Sexes- a television series pitching men against women in the game of No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker. • Liebert also has one World Series of Poker bracelet.
4) J. Liu • Other than her proficiency as a Poker player, what sets J.J. Liu apart from others is her distinctive range of hats. • During the early days of Poker boom, Liu was considered as one of the best Poker players. • Formerly a software engineer, Liu started playing Poker part time in 1996 and quit her job in 2004 to play Poker full time. • Her career reached its peak when she won the World Poker Tour (WPT) Ladies Night IV in 2006. • She was also the only woman to finish “in the money” at the inaugural Asian Poker Tour (APT) event. • Liu has earned her place among the top five women in the tournament Poker with career earnings of over $2.9 million in official earnings.
5) LivBoeree • Boeree is not only a Poker player, but also a model, TV presenter and an Astrophysics graduate. • Nicknamed “Iron Maiden”; because of her love for heavy metal music, Boeree won the 2010 European Poker Tour in Sanremo. • Her background in Astrophysics helps her with her game “as it makes you more analytical and think logically. It’s all numbers after all,” she says. • She won Female Player of the Year in both 2014 and 2015 at the European Poker Awards and was also awarded “Europe’s Leading Lady” in 2010 at the European Poker Awards.
