  1. Annual Golf Getaway New Orleans Are you ready for this! The Getaway Gang is leaving California and headed out on a big time excursion to the Big Easy. This guarantees to be an outing our golf group will never forget. Look out Dixieland, here we come. This is a package deal that I have set up with Big Easy Golf, Inc. It includes four (4) nights lodging at the Historic Chateau Bourbon – Wyndham Hotel nestled within the French Quarter and two (2) rounds of golf. Reservations will be for Saturday night through Tuesday night. Golfing is scheduled for Sunday and Monday with a day of leisure planned for Tuesday (sightseeing, an extra round of golf at Lakewood Country Club or recovering from Tuesday night on the town). Sunday golf will be at the renowned English Turn Country Club and then a round of golf on Monday at the new Tournament Players Club of Louisiana. Once again, this is a package deal with a set price per person, double occupancy per room. Your only option will be travel arrangements. Golf Date: Sunday – May (TBD) Monday – May (TBD) Place: English Turn Country Club TPC Louisiana First Tee Time: 10:00 AM 10:00 AM English Turn is a Jack Nicklaus designed Par 72 Championship Golf Course which presents a unique challenge to golfers of any skill level. Whether you prefer to defy large sand bunkers, water traps (which are a part of every hole), or intense grass depressions and mounds, English Turn has something for you! Each of the eighteen championship holes is unique; this is no cookie cutter course. While some courses place holes to merely divide residential area, this is not the case at English Turn. Every hole has a unique personality and English Turn is known for its undulating greens, another characteristic of a challenging course appealing to every golfer. In fact, the famed 18th of English Turn was consistently rated one of the most challenging on the PGA Tour. Tournament Players Club of Louisiana - Named by Golf Digest the "No. 4 Best Upscale Public Golf Course" when opened in 2004, TPC Louisiana is a championship layout crafted by world-renowned golf course architect Pete Dye. Situated on 250 acres along the Mississippi River across from New Orleans, 12 miles from the French Quarter, the picturesque 18-hole course features rolling hills, wetlands, ponds, pot bunkers and magnificent cypress and moss-covered oak trees. TPC Louisiana is annual host for the Zurich Classic New Orleans, one of the oldest and most popular events on the PGA Tour If reading about the two golf courses wasn’t enough for you, how about the chance to experience New Orleans with its historic charm, musical heritage and colorful culture. New Orleans, Louisiana is one of the most enchanting destinations in the world. Step onto Bourbon Street and wander through the French Quarter, listening to cool Dixieland jazz, browsing shops and art galleries, and enjoying hot Creole and Cajun cuisine. Go shopping at the world-famous French Market, experience the New Orleans Museum of Art, and see starfish at the Audubon Aquarium. When the sun sets, the Crescent City is alive with the sounds of jazz beating out of legendary clubs. Stroll through the historic streets of the French Quarter, sip on a hurricane and dance to the rhythms of jazz, blues, and Zydeco. Surrounded by the sights and sounds of New Orleans, the Chateau Bourbon Hotel will be your oasis of hospitality in the French Quarter.

  2. French Quarter - The cultural soul of New Orleans, the historic French Quarter is over 100 square-blocks of dining, shopping, entertainment, art and architectural treasures. Stroll 300-year old streets to restaurants, music clubs, shops, markets, historic landmarks and art galleries. A cultural love child of old Europe, the Caribbean and the South, New Orleans' original colonial neighborhood is a carnival of red-hot jazz, food, and frivolity. Explore famous attractions such as Jackson Square, French Market, and St. Louis Cathedral. See artists, musicians, and street performers light up the streets. Hop on the Steamboat Natchez and cruise down the Mississippi River. Celebrate at the French Quarter Fest and Mardi Gras. Take a walking history tour or Haunted New Orleans tour to the secrets of the Vieux Carre. Dance to jazz music from legends like Louis Armstrong and drink a New Orleans hurricane. Bourbon Street - The nightlife Mecca of New Orleans, world-famous Bourbon Street keeps the French Quarter action alive and kicking! Lined with hundreds of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, music venues, shops and galleries, Bourbon Street is year-round festival of fun, food and festivity in the middle of the French Quarter. Stroll down Bourbon Street and feel the party vibe at the many bars and clubs that stay open until the wee hours. Sop at every corner and hear live music and the hottest New Orleans jazz. Enjoy a hurricane at Pat O'Brien's, sing Karaoke at Cat's Meow, try your luck at Harrah's Casino, look up to the balconies for beads, or dance till dawn at Bourbon Street Blues. Called the birthplace of jazz, Bourbon Street is a decadent New Orleans party!Jackson Square - Located along the Mississippi River in the French Quarter, Jackson Square is a popular destination in New Orleans. A tribute to Andrew Jackson, the historic square is home to an open-air artist market and the statue of General Andrew Jackson on his bronze horse. At Jackson Square you can shop for original art, hear live music, visit historic buildings, grab a bite to eat and see the original Louisiana Purchase. Surrounding Jackson Square are wonderful shops, restaurants, bars and museums, the Jax Brewery, Shopping Mall, French Market, St. Louis Cathedral, and Washington Artillery Park - a beautiful river overlook. Hop on one of the many horse-drawn carriages and enjoy a 30 minute-tour of the French Quarter. Here is a recap of the plan. Saturday will be utilized as a travel day. Saturday night is your first of four nights at the Chateau Bourbon Hotel. The first day of golf has been scheduled Sunday at the English Turn Country Club, with our second day of golf taking place at the TPC - Louisiana on Monday. Tuesday will be a day of leisure. You can make your own plans to do whatever sounds good to you. Wednesday will be checkout and departure/return day. If you do not want to stay the additional fourth day/night, let me know and I will see if you can delete a day of lodging. Your room partner will need to be in concurrence with that or they will be billed for the entire room rate for the last night. In the past, I have set up some group dinner arrangements and social activities/events. However, this time there are so many options that I will leave it up to the folks attending to decide where they want to eat and what extra activities they might like to partake in. The course is part of the Audubon Golf Trail and a proud member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary program – providing a landscape that many have compared to a private nature reserve. The layout incorporates gently rolling hills and stately stands of cypress and oak trees – with Dye adding plenty of water hazards and bunkers to make for a highly interesting game. The course offers five sets of tees, and although it stretches to 7,400 yards from the tips, a series of short but compelling par-4 holes balance the longer ones to deliver a great blend of challenge and playability. In addition to its 103 bunkers, 69 of them pot bunkers, Dye installed numerous waste bunkers - some 20 acres of the 80-plus acres of playing area are covered in sand and he also created five large ponds which are the core of the course's water hazards. Featuring Bermuda fairways that are over-seeded annually with Rye, TPC Louisiana provides top-quality playing conditions throughout the year. "We've got some pretty nice, short par 4s that are really going to be the heart of the golf course," Pete said.
