  4. Summer Preparation • House and advisory assignments • We cannot accept specific teacher or house requests. • House assignments and advisory class posted online • School visits • Wrap Packs & Meet the Teacher • Tuesday, August 20thfrom 3:00 to 4:00 • Go to Advisory Classroom

  5. First Day of SchoolSchool Hours: 8:20-3:40 • Getting Acquainted • Expectations • Supplies • Lockers • Schedules • Tours • Lunch • Electives/PE

  6. Core Classes • Math (70 minutes) • Science (70 minutes) • Integrated Language Arts and Social Studies (140 minutes) • TAG Math (70 minutes) • TAG Explorations (140 minutes weekly)

  7. Curriculum • Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) www.hpisd.org www.tea.state.tx.us • State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) • Must Pass Reading AND Math for Promotion Reading Math Science

  9. Electives 70 min. twice a week Students attend 9 weeks each: • band • choir • orchestra • art Spanish: 70 min. once a week

  10. PE 70 min. twice a week • Tennis Shoes • Comfortable Clothing • No changing clothes or showers in grades 5-6 • Mixed classes

  11. Dress Code • Available in the Code of Conduct (posted on the district website www.hpisd.org at the beginning of the school year) • Modest and comfortable clothing

Cell Phone Policy • In order to best preserve the learning environment, while also eliminating unnecessary distractions, we are asking students to leave all cell phones, Apple watches, or other communication/personal electronic devices at home. • If such devices are brought to school we will expect they are powered off and remain off until the end of the school day in cell phone parking. • The entire cell phone policy is available in the Student Handbook.

Traffic & Construction • Carpool • Use queue lanes. • Do NOT “cut” in the queue lane. • Slow down…plan to spend 10-20 minutes picking up and dropping off at peak times. • Stay alert. • Do not ask children to cross through passing cars. • Watch for children darting between cars. • Insist that your children use the crosswalks. • Have designated drop-off and pick-up areas. If possible, have those areas away from high traffic areas.
