  3. Communication*Google Drive- (creating a new folder/sharing with me/give me editing rights) English 10 Homework or English 11 HomeworkShared with me vs. My DriveGoogle Docs (creating a new doc/presentation)

  5. Web Backpack & Skyward (our new web based grading program) http://www4.smsd.org/kristythigpenand bookmark it on your Macbook Air(calendars/documents, etc.)

  6. Your online textbook access Go to: my.hrw.com And use the login/password that I’ve given you. For most of you it is your student # for both the User ID and password. If you are unable to login, let me know and we’ll check on it. *Features available to you. (audio downloads, using the text, listening online, ACT resource, good study questions for selections to review)

  7. Etiquette for emailing me*Use proper grammar please, no text lingo.*Subject line filled in*Sign your full name & hour before you hit send. *Note- my hours will not match yours. I am not up at 1am checking email. So, if it’s overnight urgent, phone a friend.

Curriculum for 11th grade Once everyone has devices, I’ll post the district syllabus to your Google Drive folder for this class, but in the mean time, here are a few highlights of the major things for the year: MLA format Essay writing for different purposes and audiences Sentence structure and vocabulary American Literature in chronological order 1800s-Present The Crucible Into the Wild Argumentative research paper Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Poetry analysis The Great Gatsby A Raisin in the Sun Speaking, listening and close reading skills

Curriculum for 10th grade Once everyone has devices, I’ll post the district syllabus to your Google Drive folder for this class, but in the mean time, here are a few highlights of the major things for the year: MLA format Essay writing for different purposes and audiences Sentence structure and vocabulary Short stories Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare Lord of the Flies by William Golding Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury orCatcher in the Rye by J.D. Classroom Expectations *Attendance/tardies/loss of credit *Materials (writing utensil, paper, charged Macbook Air) *Charged devices (*You must remember, using the Macbook Air during class is a privilege, not a right.) *Cell phones/music devices/earbuds *Leaving the classroom (nurse/office vs. personal choice- 3 passes per quarter policy) *Drinks/food in the room

Assessment of learning*Writings (6 trait writing- 3 major papers and rewrites: narrative, informative, argumentative)*Analysis/synthesis*Close reading/annotation*Applying grammar rules to writing*Application of information (rarely use multiple choice)*Context clue vocabulary-both gradesWord parts-1oth grade*Meeting deadlines will help.
