  2. PROS•PECT • Mrs. Frisby was frightened by the prospect of walking through the woods alone at night. • Bobby was nervous about the prospect of starting at a new school. Something that could happen in the future

  3. FIERCE • The small kitten pretended to be fierce. • The fierce storm blew the roof off the barn. Threatening in appearance

  4. IN•EF•FEC•TIVE•LY • The crow was sitting on the fence, pecking ineffectively at the string tied to his legs. • The bird pecked ineffectively at the empty feeder. Which was more effective or useful? uselessly

  5. A•LARM•ING•LY • The crow banked alarmingly, and for a moment Mrs. Frisby was frightened. • The branch fell alarmingly, scaring the hikers around the campfire. Filled with a sense of danger
