  1. Dr. David Jeremiah HOPEFUL PARENTING

  2. The Law of Sowing • Modern society shuns the “indoctrination” of our children in our Christian beliefs. Why? • Ephesians 6:4 • Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

  3. The Law of Sowing • Deuteronomy 6:7 • Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. • If you do not influence your child, someone or something else will.

  4. The Innocence of Childhood • Born a savage. • The modern notion of free reign. • 2 Timothy 3:2 • People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy… • The Apostle Paul tells us that disobedient children are a sign of the end times.

  5. Things run along pretty smoothly until your kid reaches thirteen. That’s the time you need to stick ‘em in a barrel, hammer the lid down nice and snug, and feed ‘em through the knothole. And then, about the time he turns sixteen, plug the knothole! - Mark Twain

  6. A Whack Between the Eyes • Dr. Jeremiah recounted a story in the book about his early ministry and the neglect it led to with Donna and his young children. • Donna lovingly reminded him that his family was his first priority in ministry, as the Priest of his House. • Dr. Jeremiah also recounted an event where one of his children came razor-close to losing their life.

  7. Stewards, not Owners • Ezekiel 18:4 • For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son—both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die. • Genesis 22 • What was God’s purpose in this exercise?

  8. Stewards, not Owners 1 Samuel Where would Hannah deposit her son under the new covenant? Are we more committed to God than we are to our own children?

  9. Everything in life which we commit to God is really safe. And everything which we refuse to commit to Him is never safe. - A. W. Tozer

  10. Love Unconditionally • 1 Corinthians 13:7-8 • It alwaysprotects, always trusts, always hopes, alwaysperseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. [emphasis added]

  11. How? • 2 Corinthians 9:8 • And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. • James 1:5 • If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

  12. Challenge In what ways do you fear failure in your role as a parent? Have you received or ignored warning signals from your spouse when it comes to your priorities?
