  1. All You Need To Know About QuickBooks Multi-User Mode QuickBooks desktop application allows multiple users to access and work on the same company file in multi-user mode. The QuickBooks users can access the company file on different workstations and at different locations. However, connecting to multi-user mode can sometimes trigger various multi-user errors.   2. Steps to Setup Multi-User Mode in QuickBooks Desktop Application Step 1. Assemble QuickBooks Desktop First, download and install QuickBooks on the server computer. While installing the software, choose Custom and Network install for the install type. If you want to have the full version of QuickBooks on the server system, then select ‘I’ll be using QuickBooks desktop on this computer, AND I’ll be storing ……’If you want the server computer to host the files only, then choose ‘I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop on this computer…. Next, complete the installation by following the prompt steps. Follow the steps given below to set up and install a multi-user network.   4. Step 3. Download and Install QuickBooks Database Server Manager on your server computer The server computer is the one that holds the company files. Download QuickBooks Database Server Manager. Close all programs running on the server computer. Move to downloads and open the Setup_QuickBooks.exe file. Install the server manager by following the on-screen steps. When asked for install type, choose Custom or Network Options and click Next. Select an appropriate option for the network setup and click Next. Follow the prompt steps and click Install.

  5. Step 4. Give Administrative rights To use QuickBooks in multi-user mode, you need to login to Windows as an administrator: Click on the Start menu. Choose All Programs. Then, open Windows Small Business Server. Choose Windows SBS Console and then Users and Groups. Click on Add a new user account tab. Fill up the required fields and proceed to the Add a New User Account wizard. Give admin rights to the user and click Finish.

  6. Step 5. Turn on Host Multi-User Access Only the server computer should have this feature on: Open QuickBooks and click on the File menu. Select Utilities and then Host Multi-User Access. Click Yes.
