What is ELEMENT? • ELEMENT is an EU funded project under the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 1 scheme. • In accordance with the overall Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 1 objectives, the Egypt-Lebanon-EU Mobility Exchange NeTwork (ELEMENT) aims to promote European higher education, to help improve and enhance the career prospects of students and to promote intercultural understanding through cooperation with Egypt and Lebanon, in accordance with EU external policy objectives in order to contribute to the sustainable development of Egypt and Lebanon in the field of higher education. • The ELEMENT program facilitates student and staff mobilities between Egypt, Lebanon and the EU

  5. Third Country Scholars • To be eligible, third-country undergraduate and master students as well as doctoral and post • doctoral candidates: • 1. Must be a national of one of the third countries covered by the relevant lot; • 2. Must have not resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc) for more than a • total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the European countries; • 3. For Target Group 1 (TGI) • 4. For Target Group 2 (TGII) • 5. For Target Group 3 (TGIII) • 6. Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages • currently spoken in the hosting countries. • Deadline : 9-1-2012

Basic & Applied research Grants No Deadline • Basic and Applied Research Grants are directed towards any researcher/group of researcher at all ages and all disciplines whom are willing to participate in an innovative competitive research in Egypt Eligibility Criteria: - Any researcher or group of researchers working in Egypt - This grant provides up to 1,000,000 Egyptian Pounds over three years and covers the following costs: · Principal Investigator & proposed staff salary. · Cost of Travel. · Equipment costs · Other Direct costs · Limited Indirect costs

Important Remarks & How to Apply: • - All proposals must be uploaded to the STDF website • proposals submitted by e-mail or send as hard copies will not be considered. • No project should be submitted simultaneously in more than one grant • DO NOT submit proposals previously funded either by STDF or any other funding agency • Any publications produced as a result of STDF funded proposals, should acknowledge STDF funding in the publication • All proposals MUST be in English Language, Arabic is allowed only for proposals in the field of Humanities • No foreign partners are allowed in these grants.

Young Researchers Grant No Deadline Eligibility Criteria: • A Principal Investigator whom satisfy the following criteria: • He / She must be less than 40 years old at the date of proposal submission. • - He / She must have obtained PhD degree within the past ten years before the date of the proposal submission. • - He / She must have published at least two papers in the most cited (international) • journals/periodicals in his/her field within the past three years. • At least one assistant non PhD holders. • The Only PhD holder A maximum grant of 500,000 Egyptian Pounds plus maximum 20% indirect cost Web site : http://www.stdf.org.eg/

Objectives and Overview • The objective of ICT  is to improve the competitiveness of European industry – as well as to enable Europe to master and shape the future developments of these technologies so that the demands of its society and economy are met. • The EU Member States have earmarked a total of € 9.1 billion for funding ICT over the duration of FP7 (with 64% of the total budget). • FP7 research activities will strengthen Europe’s scientific and technology base and ensure its global leadership in ICT, help drive and stimulate product, service and process innovation and creativity through ICT use and ensure that ICT progress is rapidly transformed into benefits for Europe’s citizens, businesses, industry and governments.

  14. Future and Emerging Technologies • It supports new and alternative ideas, concepts or paradigms of risky or non-conventional nature. FET aims to go beyond the conventional boundaries of ICT and ventures into uncharted areas, often inspired by and in close collaboration with other scientific disciplines. • ICT increasingly rely on deep synergies with other disciplines (Biology, chemistry, nano science, neuro- science, social science, economics) and with the arts and humanities.

Collaborative projects (CP) • Support to research projects carried out by consortia with participants from different countries, aiming at developing new knowledge, new technology, products, demonstration activities or common resources for research. a) Small or medium-scale focused research actions (STREP): • Size and resources : There must be at least 3 ‘legal entities’ established in different EU Member States or Associated countries. the number of participants in STREPs varied from 6 to 15 participants and the EU contribution is around EUR 2 million. • Duration : 18 months to 3 years. • Activities: a) Research and technological development activities. b) Demonstration activities (e.g. testing of product-like prototypes). c) Management activities .

Coordination and support actions (CSA) • Support to activities aimed at coordinating or supporting research activities and policies (networking, exchanges, trans-national access to research infrastructures, studies, conferences,etc). a) Coordination or networking actions (CA) • Coordinating or networking actions will always have to be carried out by a consortium of participants, normally3 from three different countries. • Activities: • The organisation of events - including conferences, meetings, workshops or seminars , related studies, exchanges of personnel, exchange and dissemination of good Practices.

  18. b) Specific support actions (SA) • Specific support actions may be carried out by a single participant, which can be based in any member state, associated country or a third country. • Activities: • Monitoring and assessment activities. • Conferences, seminars studies, expert groups, high level scientific awards and competitions, operational support and dissemination, information and communication activities . • Support for transnational access to research infrastructures or preparatory technical work, including feasibility studies, for the development of new infrastructures, support for cooperation with other European research schemes, the use by the Commission of external experts, management .
