Why ODL should be cheaper than Face-to-Face? • ODL institutions do not need new buildings and infrastructures if they can collaborate • The biggest investment is in developing materials in Learning Management System (LMS) such as Moodle • This investment can be returned in certain length of time from tuition fee • Students mostly pay for tutors, electricity, internet, downloading written materials, and some parts of institution’s investment

How ODL serves its Students? • Institution such as Universitas Terbuka in Indonesia delivers its courses mostly by written materials (modules) completed by some tutorials (face-to-face and internet), • University of Bina Nusantara in Jakarta uses blended learning in which 30% of all courses are delivered by distance learning, • Some institution deliver their courses by hybrid or blended learning (23 universities in Indonesia).

  6. What does Seamolec prepare for ODL? • SEAMOLEC prepares SEA EduNet • Lecturers broadcast their courses by using multicast system • The rest of courses are delivered by using moodle (one of Learning Management System) • Teaching and learning process mostly is in moodle • All materials is in server • Students register and pay tuition fee electronically • Students are also doing exams electronically
