  3. Background On March 25, 1931, several people were hoboing on a train. Several white boys jumped off the train and reported to the sheriff they had been attacked by a group of black boys. The sheriff, stopped and searched the train and, arrested the 9 black boys, and found two white girls who accused the boys of rape. The case was first heard in Scottsboro, Alabama in three rushed trials, where the defendants received poor legal representation. All but thirteen year old Roy Wright were convicted of rape and sentenced to death.

  4. No proof As people started to look into the trial they noticed that their was no proof that the boys raped, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. Ruby Bates actually told the truth and said that the boys never raped her and that her and Victoria were prostitutes and were illegally leaving and were afraid that they were going to get in trouble so they yelled, rape. This didn’t release the boys or change the way they were treated.

  5. These Boys lives were ripped away from them for a crime that they didn’t commit. • At the very least they spent 6 years of their lives in prison being beat and whipped. • They were just boys the oldest being 19 and the youngest being 13. • They got no sunlight and very little food.
