  3. inspiring words of wisdom Clapham said that if a sedentary living person could be taken off the street given a rifle and 60lb pack & marched all over Africa then surely a fit & able athlete could complete the distance of 89kms. The Comrades Marathon is a cherished national treasure of SA & attracts thousands of runners, spectators & television viewers every year from across the globe because it tests you in all respect and to make you believe in your self.   6. COMRADE 2012- DOWN HILL RUN - CUT OFF TIMES AND PLACES • 89 km race starts at 5.30 am • First Cut off- Cato Ridge 27 km to be crossed within 5 Hrs and 10 min • Last Cut off- 45th cutting 82 km to be crossed within 11 Hrs and 20 min
