  8. New for 2011:Accommodation Classifications • Read Aloud for reading content area items • if the following criteria are met: • 1.The student has a specific disability that severely limits or prevents him/her from decoding text, or from comprehending decoded text, even after varied and repeated attempts to teach the student to do so (i.e., the student is a virtual non-reader, not simply reading below grade level). AND • 2. The student has access to printed materials through a human reader or assistive technology device during routine classroom instruction and classroom assessments.

  9. New for 2011:Tasks • For some Reading tasks, students without a read aloud accommodation will be instructed to “read this passage.” The teacher will pause for student to read before reading the question and answer options. • For some Reading tasks, all students, regardless of read aloud accommodation, will have those passages read aloud (same as in 2010). These tasks are identified on the Reading subject divider page. • For some tasks, you will no longer repeat the primary task after an incorrect response (at Score Level 4). These tasks are identified on each subject divider page.

  10. Test Preparation • Student access to the test • Identify the student’s primary mode(s) of communication • Administer each task • Student response for each task • Verbal • Nonverbal • Sign Systems • Communication Books • Assistive Technology • Identify accommodations needed specific to content areas http://www.isbe.net/assessment/pdfs/iaa/accom_class.pdf

  11. Test Preparation cont. • Use sample items to familiarize the student and teacher with the test format • Discuss/explain to the student what he/she will be asked to do during the assessment • Ensure assistive technology and communication devices are in good working order • Determine the best focal distance for the student to view and manipulate the materials • Schedule the assessment to eliminate competitive sounds or visual distractions that may divert the student

  12. Task Administration • Avoid cuing answers through body language, voice, praise, or positioning of objects • Follow the reader script as written in the test booklet and present the answer option choices in the order as written in the test booklet

  13. Task Layout • Teacher Page – reader script • Student Page – task and/or answer options Teacher Page Student Page

  14. IAA Scoring Rubric – Score Levels 4 - The student answers correctly the primary task without assistance or with a single repetition of the primary task. The teacher can repeat the primary task without change one time (no additional prompting and no indication of right or wrong answer). **with the EXCEPTION of items identified on the subject divider page** 3 -The student correctly answers the primary task when presented the general prompt. 2 - The student correctly answers the primary task with a specific prompt. 1 - The student does not answer the primary task at Level 2 or provides an incorrect response despite Level 2 support.

  15. Built-In Task Characteristics • Template provides reader script for task administration. • The General Prompt is embedded in the task (in the event it is needed). • All tasks are administered in the “template” format. • Some tasks have artwork embedded on the students page. • Flexibility in presentation and student response for all tasks.

  36. Logging In • When you first log in, you will see the screen below. • Click on Resources to find the User Guide and other helpful links. • When you are ready to enter scores, click on the Enter Scores link.

  37. Teachers should log in as soon as they receive their username and password, to verify that their classroom list is complete. Teachers will not be able to enter scores until February 21, but you should complete each student’s “Accommodations on IEP” section before testing. If you are missing students from your classroom list, you should contact your IAA Coordinator to have those students added to your classroom. Classroom Screen

  38. Information that should be entered PRIOR to testing includes the following: Teacher Name & Phone, Level of Familiarity w/ Student, Accommodations on IEP and Non-Participation indicator (if applicable). The image below shows the Accommodations on IEP table (please note, some of these have changed for 2011, so the image below is not 100% accurate.) Entering Pre-Test Information Test Accommodations on IEP (check all that apply)

  39. Once the testing window opens on February 21, you will be able to access the score entry screens to enter scores. In the example below, you can see that you will select the rubric score that the student received for each task. You are also required to indicate how the student performed in comparison to their typical classroom performance on similar tasks. The last step will be to indicate the Accommodations Used to Administer the Test (see the following slide) Entering Scores

  40. Once you enter scores for a subject, you will then need to indicate the types of accommodations that were actually used to administer the test (please note, some of these have changed for 2011, so the image below is not 100% accurate.) You can save a student record at any time, and come back. The Classroom screen will keep track of progress. Entering Scores (Continued) Accommodations used on IAA Writing Subset
